Aes Sedai
The White Tower is known for keeping its hand in the politics of all nations in an effort to maintain peace, but also as a means of control. One way they can do this is to assign Aes Sedai advisors to monarchs great and small. While common, few nations publicly acknowledge the fact they have such an influence within court. The following is a list of known Aes Sedai advisors to the nations of the Westlands.
Altara: Cavandra to Queen Tylin Quintara Mitsobar and her father before her. As Altara was deemed a minor throne, her power was limited. She was one of the Aes Sedai loyal to the White Tower and returned there on the orders of Elaida. Joline Maza and Teslyn Baradon were sent as emmisaries to the Tarasin Palace, but were not formally the advisors of Queen Tylin. Likewise, Merilille Ceandevin was sent by the rebel faction, mainly because Salidar was on Altaran soil, but with the role of ambassador rather than a permanent advisor.
Amadicia: No advisors as Aes Sedai are outlawed here.
Andor: Ballair, to Queen Ishara Casalain and first ruler after the fall of Hawkwing's Empire to publicly have an Aes Sedai advisor.[1]
Gitara Moroso, of the Blue Ajah, to Queen Mordrellen Mantear.
Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan, of the Red Ajah, to Queen Morgase Trakand. In 974 NE, Elaida became advisor to Morgase shortly after her obtaining the throne. She returned to the White Tower during the Aiel War, but resumed her post shortly afterwards and remained her advisor until 998 NE. She was therefore Morgase's advisor for at least twenty years, albeit not continuously.[2] After a dispute with the Amyrlin Seat Siuan Sanche in Tar Valon, Morgase refused to take Elaida back with her to Caemlyn, leaving Andor without an Aes Sedai advisor for the first time in its history.[3] Gawyn thinks that Elaida was "closemouthed and imperious" while she had been his mother's advisor.[4]
Duhara Basaheen, of the Red Ajah, sent by Elaida as the White Tower advisor to Queen Elayne Trakand, although not accepted to that post. It was Elayne's intention to have Nynaeve al'Meara, of the Yellow Ajah, as her advisor when she became Queen of Andor.
Arad Doman: None known. King Alsalam Saeed Almadar was kidnapped on Elaida's orders in a similar manner to Mattin Stepaneos den Balgar, although his whereabouts were unknown for a long time. He may or may not have had an Aes Sedai advisor who aided in the kidnap. Rodel Ituralde was being set up as the next Domani King by four Aes Sedai, inluding Yukiri Haruna, Saerin Asnobar and Elswell, who will likely want to continue their influence of him by assigning an advisor in the near future.[5]
Arafel: Coladara, of the Green Ajah, to King Paitar Nachiman. She was the only Aes Sedai advisor in the Borderlands that stayed with her ruler after news of the White Tower Schism reached the northern royal courts. She was unaligned to either faction. Paitar was particularly bound to the White Tower through his favourite sister, Kiruna.[6]
Cairhien: Niande Moorwyn, of the Grey Ajah, to King Galldrian Riatin. She disappeared after the assassination of the King and did not resurface for some time. Even before his death, she was almost invisible at court.[7] She was neither allied to Elaida or the rebels after the split in the White Tower, but was co-opted by Cadsuane Melaidhrin into joining her group of sisters.[8] It is unknown if she is the same as the unnamed Aes Sedai of Cairhien during the adolescence of Moiraine Damodred, who taught the king's niece a few abilities in the One Power after it was discovered that she was born with the spark before sending her on to the White Tower to become a novice.[9]
Ghealdan: No known advisors and it should be noted that the monarchy here is strongly controlled by the Crown High Council, who advise, and indeed control who is, the current ruler.[10]
Illian: King Mattin Stepaneos den Balgar had an Aes Sedai advisor about whom nothing is known, except that she was kept hidden.[11]
Kandor: Nianh to Queen Ethenielle Kirukon Materasu. She disappeared without a trace when news of the White Tower split reached her.[6]
Malkier: None known. Sharina Melloy served as an Aes Sedai advisor to a restored Malkier in a reality devised by the silver ring ter'angreal.
Murandy: None known. King Roedran Almaric do Arreloa a'Naloy is a very weak ruler in general, as all Murandian monarchs were, so it's unlikely he was seen to be important or influential enough to merit his own personal advisor sent from the Tower.
Saldaea: An unnamed Aes Sedai of unknown Ajah was advisor to Queen Tenobia si Bashere Kazadi, although she disappeared without a trace after word of the White Tower Schism reached her. The advisor did not side with either Elaida or the rebels, but Elaida distrusted the woman's closeness with the Queen and sent Memara, of the Red Ajah, to be her replacement.
Shienar: Aisling Noon, of the Green Ajah, to King Easar Togita.
Tarabon: None known. Very little is known of King Andric, not even his full name. He is important enough, however, to have had an Aes Sedai advisor.
Tear: While Aes Sedai are permitted in Tear, channelling within the city is illegal and they have strained relations with the Tower. They also do not have a ruler, but rather a system of High Lords. After the crowning of Darlin Sisnera, however, this may change.
Far Madding: While not openly hostile to channelers, Far Madding is protected by its Guardian ter'angreal and feels therefore safe and immune from the influence of the White Tower.
Mayene: Annoura Larisen, of the Grey Ajah, to Berelain sur Paendrag Paeron.[12] The White Tower have a long tradition of cooperation with the Firsts of Mayene, including sending female heirs to the Tower for a time to be educated whether they possess the ability to channel or not.
Other mentions of Aes Sedai advisors[]
To the Dragon Reborn: Cadsuane Melaidhrin, of the Green Ajah, on request of Rand al'Thor. In an unofficial capacity, Moiraine Damodred, of the Blue Ajah, fulfilled a similar role up until her death. After Rand banished Cadsuane, he considered Nynaeve al'Maera to be his primary advisor.
To Artur Paendrag Tanreall: Chowin Tsao, of the Green Ajah, was the advisor to the High King before he started his siege on Tar Valon.[13]
During the Rhuidean flashbacks witnessed by Rand, Garam mentions that his father has an Aes Sedai advisor who advises him to leave the mountains. They will eventually do this and found the city of Cairhien. It is a secret that he has such an advisor.[14]
