- For others with the same surname, see al'Vere.
Alene al'Vere is the second-eldest daughter of the al'Vere family. She is one of Egwene's older sisters.
Personality and Abilities[]
Alene is considered a bookworm, always reading and rereading books from Bran al'Vere's library. In 991 NE, this was "almost forty books", although doubtless this has expanded in the years since, especially if Alene is a voracious reader.[1]
She is considered level-headed.[2]
According to The Wheel of Time Companion it "would possibly turn out that she could learn to channel, with a fair potential".[2]
History[]
Alene was born in the year 969 NE and is twelve years older than Egwene.[2]
She was allowed to braid her hair at sixteen (985 NE).[1] The Companion states this is because she was level-headed, although Egwene thinks in Ravens that "most girls" had their hair braided at this age.[2][1]
She never married, and some people suspected she might not. Alene accepted suitors but she felt none were satisfactory for a husband. Some thought she'd run off to see the world.[2]
Alene wanted to be tested by Alanna and Verin, who refused because she was thirty years old. She put up enough of a fuss about it that her mother had to take a firm hand with her.
With the new recruitment policy introduced by Egwene, Alene would likely pursue her ambition to be tested to enter the Novice book. If she passed, her level-headedness would likely make a diligent student.
