Alindaer (pronounced: AL-ihn-dayr) is one of six satellite villages of Tar Valon connected to the city by long white bridges like stone lacework.
Location and Description[]
Alindaer is on the southwestern side of Tar Valon connected to the city via a bridge that spans the Alindrelle Erinin and enters via the Alindaer Gate. It is on the road to Caemlyn and is a port with access to the river.[1]
Alindaer is a large village, practically a town, with brick houses of two or even three stories roofed in blue tiles, and its own inns and shops and markets.[1][2] Marble squares are found on the way to the foot of the Alindaer Bridge.[3]
History[]
Because Tar Valon is often the target of attacks and sieges, Alindaer has been a victim of many burnings over the years. It was burned at least three times during the Trolloc Wars, once during the War of the Second Dragon and twice during Hawkwing’s siege of Tar Valon.[1][2] Its inhabitants expected similar during the Aiel War, with belongings discarded in the snow as they fled to the safety of Tar Valon. Moiraine described the village as dead.[2]
Events[]
Moiraine and Siuan travel through the village on their way to collect information about children born near the end of the Aiel War. They encounter Whitecloaks attempting to block traffic along the Alindaer Bridge, but the soldiers turn aside and retreat into the village.[2]
Min passes through Alindaer on her way back to the Tower after she leaves Moiraine. She reports to Siuan that it was full of Whitecloaks and wonders if that could be the subject of her viewing foretelling deaths in the Tower.[4]
After the arrival of the Rebel Aes Sedai, it was mostly depopulated as families fled the besieging army by moving to the main city of Tar Valon.[5]
Gareth Bryne leads Egwene al'Vere there to view the force of a thousand Tower Guard that remained to defend the city at the Alindaer Gate.[3]
