Captain-General is the title given to the Head of the Green Ajah. In the Green Ajah quarters, her rooms are marked by an upward-pointed sword lacquered in red, gold and black carved into the doorway.
The Green Ajah has a somewhat military hierarchy, as the title suggests, and the Captain-General has a thorough and far-reaching authority over her subordinates. She is assisted by two women who are second in command known as the First Strategist and First Tactician.[1] The identity of either of these roles in association with any named character is not given in the series.
Title holders[]
Prior to her election as Amyrlin Seat, Shein Chunla held the position. The autocratic nature of her previous role did not work so well with the Hall of the Tower. She was deposed in a rebellion.[2]
In 862 NE, Cadsuane Melaidhrin refused to be raised to Captain-General, something that was unheard of in the White Tower.
In 979 NE, Kerene Nagashi was the Captain-General. Kerene was one of Tamra Ospenya's Searchers and was murdered by the Black Ajah.
Adelorna Bastine is the current Captain-General; she also held the position in the Tower during the White Tower Schism. Alviarin Freidhen knew of her identity and had Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan (who did not know) publicly punish her and another Green, Josaine, for keeping angreal in their rooms, thereby stirring up the animosities that had made the Tower toxic by the time Egwene al'Vere was captured.
Myrelle Berengari, who was also one of the Salidar Six and part of Egwene al'Vere's Council, was Captain-General among the Rebel Greens.
