Dal Calain was a kingdom of the Free Years. It arose from the ruins of Coremanda after the Trolloc Wars. Its territory is currently unclaimed by any modern nation.
Geography[]
Dal Calain was bordered by the River Haevin to the west and north, the Arinelle to the south, another tributary of the Arinelle to the southeast, and the Black Hills in the northeast. In the east the territory of Dal Calain opened up onto the plains of Caralain Grass. Its neighbors were Masenashar to the west and north, Roemalle in the far northeast, Caembarin to the east, Aldeshar to the south, and Farashelle to the southwest.
History[]
Little is known of Dal Calain, save that at one time it was ruled by Queen Isebele, who was powerful and willful enough to summon the then-Amyrlin Anghara to visit her for an audience. Dal Calain avoided being conquered during the War of the Second Dragon, although neighboring Farashelle did fall to the false Dragon Guaire Amalasan. Dal Calain was later conquered by Artur Hawkwing during the Conquest and made part of his empire.
Addendum[]
In A Crown of Swords Mat Cauthon incorrectly recalls that Dal Calain was destroyed in the Trolloc Wars. More accurately, it was conquered by Artur Hawkwing and whatever attempts were made to refound it after his death were interrupted by the War of the Hundred Years. The same mistake is repeated in TWoTC where it is stated that Dal Calain disappeared during the Trolloc Wars while instead it was born exactly after the same wars.
