Dermid Ajala is a blacksmith who works at a smithy in the city of Tear.

He has pale blue eyes and dark hair with almost the same amount of gray as in Master Luhhan's. His arms and shoulders are thick, due to years of working metal. He wears baggy breeches and a long leather vest and apron over his bare chest.
Activities[]
When Perrin Aybara is staying at The Star inn in Tear, he hears the familiar ring of hammer on anvil from the smithy next door and wanders over. He works the bellows for Ajala, who then gives him a piece of metal stock to try his hand on. Perrin makes a chamfer knife blade, and Ajala is impressed with his technique and offers him a job. Perrin declines, but offers to do some of the apprentice work and spends the rest of the day helping Master Ajala. Ajala declares to Faile that Perrin's work as good as his "master's piece", and lets Perrin keep a hammer, saying the work he'd completed that day was worth more than a hammer, and that Perrin was "made to hold a smith's hammer".[1]
Later, along with more common work, Ajala has Perrin make a large piece of ornamental work with elaborate curves and scrolls for a country lord's new gate.[2]
