A Wheel of Time Wiki

Until recently, not much was known about the Dragon's Peace, but it was mentioned when Aviendha stepped through the glass columns at Rhuidean the second time. It is Rand al'Thor's legacy and final gift to the world, a peace treaty forbidding any conflict in the entire known world of the time.

Description and origin[]

As Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, had gathered all rulers of all nations and the leaders of all major forces of the Light at his side upon the Field of Merrilor, he intended to leave something ever-lasting behind; a world-encircling peace treaty that would prevent any possible conflicts between nations after his supposed demise. He had long considered a world-wide peace, determined not to see the world fall back into simple small-minded bickering.

Establishment[]

Most eager to support Rand was Berelain sur Paendrag Paeron, First of Mayene, shortly followed by the rulers of the Borderlander nations and Alliandre Maritha Kigarin, Queen of Ghealdan, as well as Perrin Aybara, recently recognized as Steward of the Two Rivers in the name of the Dragon Reborn.

The Amyrlin Seat Egwene al'Vere assisted with disappointment and ire at this first agreement and initially refused to sign, trying instead to promote her point of view, especially about the destruction of the remaining Seals, until the believed dead Moiraine Damodred entered and addressed the situation. Finally Egwene signed the treaty, obtaining in exchange the custody of the Seals; successively all her allies followed, including Lord Gregorin den Lushenos, Steward of Illian and Darlin Sisnera, King of Tear, and a few others nations including Murandy and the representatives of the Atha'an Miere.

After some prodding, Elayne Trakand, Queen of Andor and Cairhien signed the treaty, after being given command over the armies for the Last Battle and some reassurance about the Seanchan.

After a discussion between Rand, Aviendha and the Aiel, as a final annotation to ensure the enforcement of peace should any nation feel inclined to test the boundaries of the Dragon's legacy, the Aiel were written into the treaty as protectors of the peace.

In the end, even the Seanchan agreed to the treaty in exchange for keeping all lands they currently held this side of the Aryth Ocean, with a later appendix between them and the White Tower about the channelers. The future of the treaty remains to be seen.

Possible outcome[]

As part of Aviendha's second viewing, she sees one of her descendants, Padra, in a meeting with other Aiel leaders. They begin talking about the Seanchan and that they feel it necessary to break the Dragon's Peace and go to war with them.[1] Since hearing of the vision, the Aiel Wise Ones have agreed to ask to be a part of the peace.

Parallels[]

It seems reminiscent of the Pax Romana.
