Description[]
The Field of Merrilor is a location on the northern border between Shienar and Arafel. The River Mora splits the Field in half as it runs south into the River Erinin, providing a natural boundary between the two nations; with Arafel northwest of the river and Shienar southeast. On the Arafel side of the Mora sits a massive plateau known as the Polov Heights flanked by bogs to the southwest. Between the Heights and the bogs, the River Mora runs shallow at a stretch called Hawal Ford. On the Shienar side of the Mora, a large hill known as Dashar Knob dominates the plain. Ruins flank the Knob to the north and abandoned farms to the south sit on the border of the Erinin.
The Dragon's Peace[]
The Field is the gathering site for the nations as they prepare to begin the Last Battle. The location was announced by Rand al'Thor during his meeting with the Amyrlin, Egwene al'Vere, a month earlier. Egwene chooses to meet him here with allies in order to try and prevent Rand from breaking the seals on the Dark One's prison. She manages to persuade large numbers of Tairen and Illianers to support her, as well as Elayne's Andorans and Cairhienin.[1]
Perrin Aybara arrives in support of Rand with 70,000 men from the Two Rivers, Ghealdan, Mayene, the Whitecloaks and various other mercenaries and warrior groups. An army of peasants also arrives, probably pulled by Rand's ta'veren nature.
Presumably, Rand al'Thor has something planned to persuade the opposition of the wisdom of his course. The "Dragon's Peace" mentioned in Aviendha 's visions during her last trip to Rhuidean may also be one of Rand's plans.[2]
Rand forces the leaders of the world to sign the Dragon's Peace.
The forces of the Light use Merrilor as a staging ground to support a war being fought on three fronts.
The Last Battle[]
The forces of the Light, under the command of Matrim Cauthon, head back to Merrilor to fight the last battle.
After it is revealed that the Forsaken have compelled the remaining Great Captains to lead their armies to destruction, Egwene reluctantly hands command of the armies over to Mat, as his foxhead medallion he is immune to the effects. Seeing that the blunders have cost too many casualties for the armies to continue fighting on multiple battlefronts, Mat proposes gathering all the remaining soldiers at Merrilor for a final stand against the shadow, which the other commanders agree to.
