Guaire Amalasan was one of the most powerful False Dragons of the Third Age. The conflict to capture him became known as the War of the Second Dragon.

His personal banner consisted of the ancient symbol of the Aes Sedai on a field of blue.[1]

Appearance and Personality[]

When he declared himself, he was somewhere in his twenties, with dark, deep-set eyes and a mesmerizing gaze. He had a compelling presence.

He was not only accounted to be a charismatic leader, but one of the Great Captains of his day.[2]

History[]

Guaire Amalasan was born in Darmovan in the FY 91s. Darmovan covered what is now southern Arad Doman, Toman Head and part of the Almoth Plain. Iternal evidence suggests he was an educated man.

Guaire Amalasan declared himself the Dragon in FY 939. It is said that he never addressed a body of people, but managed to gain a large following of people whom he named "The Children of the Dragon".

Within six months of his declaration, Darmovan was his and proclaimed himself its ruler. It is said that the arrival of the Black Fever in his homeland attributed to his rapid ascent to power.

Within a year, both Balasun and Elan Dapor were also his. During the next three years his conquests continued at an increasing rate as tens of thousands from many nations flocked to his banner.

In spring of FY 940, the young King of Shandalle, Artur Paendrag (not yet called Hawkwing) led a force against him - one of the first to do so. By summer of FY 941, every nation had sent armies against Amalasan and, by FY 942 , Paendrag had engaged Amalasan's forces several times and remained undefeated, thereby earning the name "Hawkwing".

By FY 943, Amalasan had added Kharendor, Dhowlan, Farashelle, Shiota, Nerevan, Esandara, Fergansea, and Moreina to his holdings.

The last of these held Stone of Tear which he had beseiged and managed to hold out only because as many as thirty Aes Sedai had taken refuge there when the rest of Moreina fell. Given that the region had a history of distrusting channelers that dated back to shortly after the Breaking of the World, this may be a sign that the Pattern intended him to be defeated.

Talmour and Khodomar were in danger of falling into Amalasan's hands, and fierce fighting had begun in Masenashar, Dal Calain, and Aldeshar itself. In many cities not under his control, rioting mobs declared that he was the Dragon Reborn.

Six Aes Sedai tried to take him captive; he killed one and stilled two others.[3] He was able to conquer almost half of the Westlands in the war known as the War of the Second Dragon, including taking the city of Far Madding in only three weeks.[4]

Eventually he was defeated by Artur Hawkwing and gentled by the White Tower in FY 943.[2]
