Jearom was a Blademaster.

History[]

He is considered to be the greatest Blademaster to have ever lived.[1][2][3]

It is said he fought over 10,000 times in battle and single combat during his lifetime. He only lost once to a farmer with a quarterstaff.[2] He once defeated ten men at the same time.[3]

Activities[]

After Hammar sees Galad Damodred and Gawyn Trakand defeated by Mat Cauthon, he tells them that the greatest Blademaster of all time was defeated by a farmer with a quarterstaff, and they best well remember it.[2]

Watching Rand al'Thor practice with the sword against five opponents, Nasin Caeren compares him to Jearom. Davram Bashere asks Rand if he thinks he will live long enough to equal the greatest swordsman in history.[3]

Warder?[]

While there there is no indication that Jearom was a Warder in the books or additional published works, it is often stated confidently that he was. Jearom is mentioned by Hammar as an exemplar of swordsmanship to his students in the White Tower, so the assumption may come from association. Note, however, that later mentions are outside of this context and again do not mention him being a Warder. The audiobooks might also be a source of confusion. Consider the following:

“Who was the greatest blademaster of all time?”
From the throats of dozens of students came a massed bellow. “Jearom, Gaidin!”

From the audio alone, the students appear to be saying "Jearom Gaidin", which would be the title of a Warder. Finally, it must be noted that the animated short "The Greatest Warder" associated with the Amazon adaptation of the books has Jaerom as its tititular character. This is, however, not canon and an extrapolation made by the showrunners, albeit one that was also made by fans long before the TV show was made.
