Jondyn Barran is a Two Rivers man in the army led by Perrin Aybara.

Appearance[]

He is grizzled and as gnarled as an oak root.

History[]

He lives in the Westwood and hunts to sustain himself. [verify]

The only man better than him with a bow in the Two Rivers is Tam al'Thor. Nobody in the Two Rivers is a better hunter than him. Perrin thinks that he could 'follow yesderday's wind' and Sulin gives him high praise because he can track in fresh snow.

He is one of the region's less distinguished residents, having not worked a day more than he had to since leaving his father's farm. The forests and the hunt are all he lives for.

He has a reputation for drinking too much at feastdays, spitting and speaking what he thinks no matter who is listening.

Activities[]

He is one of the few older men with Perrin at the Battle of Dumai's Wells. Unlike some younger men, he does not see it as a great victory and says that it was the Asha'man who won the battle. He also says it would have been better if the captured Aes Sedai had died in battle since they will end up paying dearly for taking them prisoner.

He accompanies Perrin into Ghealdan to track down Masema Dagar.

Dannil Lewin sends Jondyn, Hu Marwin, and Get Ayliah to track down Faile when she is captured by the Shaido Aiel. Numbers of the Shaido are initially estimated based on the fact that Jondyn finds scrapes on trees which he says are made by carts and that there were a lot of them. Sulin uses this information to deduce there are probably more than one sept of the Shaido and thousands of spears, since only Aiel children ride in carts.

The group of trackers eventually catch up with Faile's captors and question a number of inhabitants who are fleeing Malden because of the arrival of the Aiel.

Perrin thinks that Jondyn must have shown the Maidens of the Spear how to make snow-shoes from vines and supple pine branches. When Perrin meets with the Seanchan, he gets Jondyn to shoot an arrow into a branch he holds up, to show that Two Rivers men are hiding in the bushes and will fire on the Seanchan if necessary.
