Malden

Malden is a city in northern Altara.

Description[]

The houses there are slate-roofed and built of timber or stone and the city it is encircled by a stone wall. The main commerce of the city is wool and mediocre wine. There is a fortress in the northeast corner. The city's water is supplied from a nearby reservoir by means of an aqueduct.

Shaido occupation[]

The Shaido Aiel occupied the area for some time, deposing Lady Cairen, burning part of the city, making most of the original residents gai'shain, driving the remainder away, and establishing a large encampment surrounding the city.

During the Battle of Malden, the Shaido camp at Malden was attacked by Perrin Aybara and his allies in order to liberate the Shaido captives, including Perrin's wife Faile, and neutralize the Shaido threat in the region. Perrin's forces exploited the city's aqueduct to introduce forkroot into Malden's water supply, virtually eliminating the combat effectiveness of the channelers among Sevanna's Wise Ones.
