A Wheel of Time Wiki

Rhamdashar was one of the 29 nations of the Free Years. It was founded after the end of the Trolloc Wars,[1] and was established on the former territory of Aramaelle. It was later absorbed by the growing might of Artur Hawkwing's Empire. Rhamdashar was one of the Borderlands in its day and also a militarily strong nation. The lands it once held later became the nations of Malkier and Shienar. The eastern half of Arafel also lay within Rhamdashar's area of control.

Geography[]

Rhamdashar

In red location within the Westlands

Rhamdashar was the northeasternmost nation in the Westlands, stretching from the Blight to the River Erinin and from the Spine of the World to west of the River Mora. Its neighbors were Elsalam to the west, Tar Valon and Hamarea to the south, and the Aiel Waste to the east. The Erinin was a major trade artery of the kingdom.

The modern cities of Fal Moran and Fal Dara, plus the now-fallen Seven Towers of Malkier all lay within Rhamdashar's territory.

History[]

Rhamdashar appears to have emerged out of the ruins of Aramaelle and possibly been directly founded by survivors of that nation: the ruling house of Rhamdashar possessed a ring also worn by the kings and queens of Aramaelle. As one of the Borderlands of its day and the one holding Tarwin's Gap, Rhamdashar was charged with keeping back the Shadow in the north.

Rhamdashar sent troops to fight the false Dragon Guaire Amalasan in the War of the Second Dragon. It was later conquered by Artur Hawkwing and made part of his empire. Its lands were divided between the provinces of Malkier, Arafel, and Shienar. Upon the death of the Hawkwing, the three governors of these territories declared them to be sovereign kingdoms and forged an alliance between one another against both the Shadow and also any of the southern kingdoms who would attempt to war against them. The ruling ring of Aramaelle and Rhamdashar fell into the possession of the kings of Malkier, although it had been reforged so many times that not much of the original ring could possibly remain.
