Solinda was an Aes Sedai who lived around the time of the War of the Shadow and the Breaking and most probably around the end of the Age of Legends.
Appearance[]
She had waist-long, sun-red hair, nearly the color of Jonai's hair, and looked younger than Jonai but she is described to be quite old, as Jonai thinks about how his greatfather was already serving her. Considering that Jonai is 63 and having the prime of his life, Solinda might be several hundred-years old.
History[]
She appears in the Seventh vision of Rand in the ter'angreal of Rhuidean [1] standing in one of the rooms of the Hall of the Servants with half a dozen Aes Sedai, all female, planning over Callandor and the Banner of the Dragon based on the Foretelling of Deindre Sedai.
She is the one who makes Jonai promising her to save the Aiel also somewhat based on Deindre's Foretelling, as she indicates "the Da'shain yet have a part yet to play".
She asks three things from Jonai:
- to carry the things they gave them to safety and care for them until they want them again.
- to keep moving, until they find the place of safety where no one can harm them. Keep the Aiel safe.
- to keep the Covenant, the Way of the Leaf – as the Covenant was the Aiel, and the Aiel were the Covenant; to abandon the Way would be to abandon what they were.
Making the Eye of the World[]
Solinda might have been part of the group of female Aes Sedai who created the Eye of the World with the help of young male Aes Sedai – Kodam and his fellows – who were not yet touched by the taint of saidin. She asked Someshta to guard it until it is needed. Her death is not known, only that those who made the Eye died during the process. Jonai's memories indicate that Callandor was taken care of later, after the Banner of the Dragon. "The sword must wait." as it is said, and Callandor was set in the Stone of Tear also with the use of both saidin and saidar. The order of the events are not known.
