A Spring Pole is a long slender trunk of a fir tree shorn of it's branches standing about 10 feet high. It is erected by the women of the village and ignored by the men until the morning of Bel Tine, when they act surprised that the pole is there. At noon of the day of Bel Tine unmarried women dance around the pole entwining it with long colorful ribbons while the unmarried men sing.[1]
