The High Lady Suroth Sabelle Meldarath was a Seanchan noblewoman, the High Lady of Asinbayar and Barsabba. She fell in disgrace and is now da'covale. She is also a Darkfriend.
Appearance[]
She has black eyes, and the sides of her head are shaved with a long crest of dark hair. When she first arrives at Falme, the first two fingernails of each of her hands are an inch long and lacquered blue.[1]
Activities[]
Capturing Egwene[]
She strikes a deal with Liandrin, who hands over Elayne Trakand, Egwene al'Vere, and Nynaeve al'Meara to be collared and trained as damane. During this conversation with Liandrin they refer to the Dark One as the Great Lord indicating that both are Darkfriends.[1]
She becomes commander of the Hailene following the death of High Lord Turak, but takes her orders from Semirhage. She leads the Seanchan in the conquering of the Fortress of the Light in Amadicia. She greets Morgase Trakand and tells her she can either take the oath to the Seanchan or become a servant like Amathera Aelfdene Casmir Lounault who was the old Panarch of Tarabon.[2]
In Ebou Dar[]
She is present in Ebou Dar when Rand al'Thor begins to drive the Seanchan back into the city. She commands Kennar Miraj to engage Rand and informs him that Rand's army is Traveling.[3] She has taken Liandrin as a captive and named her da'covale. She uses Alwhin as her so'jhin.
She then begins to reside in the Tarasin Palace and promotes Queen Tylin Quintara Mitsobar to one of the Blood. She is present when Matrim Cauthon barges into a meeting with herself, Tylin, and Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag. She is horrified with how Anath Dorje speaks to Tuon. She takes Tylin away by to'raken to show her the expanded area around Ebou Dar she now rules under Seanchan rule.[4]
Plotting treason[]
She is called into a war council with General Lunal Galgan after Tuon goes missing. She orders all raken shifted to Tarabon to suppress the uprisings caused by Rodel Ituralde, and orders Ituralde's head brought back to her. Galgan persuades her to only send a portion of the flyers. Semirhage later visits Suroth with the news that she murdered the entire Imperial Family and that Suroth can now claim the title of Empress from this side on the ocean, if she wishes. Suroth weighs her options and orders the murder of Tuon, under the pretense that she is an imposter.[5] She enters a meeting and is told by Galgan that the Forerunners are being absorbed in the Return. Tuon then arrives, alive and well with the head of Elbar. Suroth is declared a traitor and stripped of her name and rank. She is then made da'covale and given to the Deathwatch Guard to use as they wish until her hair grows out so she can be sold.[6] Some time later, she admits to being a darkfriend and conspiring with Semirhage, who was posing as Anath Dorje, to kill Tuon.
