What does the title refer to?[]

- Indeed. There are only two explicit references. The first is when Demandred is is talking to the Forsaken gathering:
- "... The first part of the Great Lord's message was simple. Let the Lord of Chaos rule. His words exact."
- The second time is again Demandred, after he sees Elayne in Tel'aran'rhiod. This time he is just thinking aloud about the message.
- There are two characters (so to speak) that I could guess it refers to, but it would merely be wild speculation on my part. --TheParanoidOne 22:02, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

- Actually yes, it is that oblique. You say that 'only one entity consistently referred to as the "Lord of Chaos"' but that name has never been used in any of the previous books and it was only used two times in this book, as mentioned above. So I don't understand where your "consistently" comes from (bearing in mind that I haven't read any of the other books ...). --TheParanoidOne 11:06, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
- Why would it be the Dark One? Demandred's account was word-for-word. The Dark One doesn't seem to be the type to use third person. Myself, I've always felt that the Lord of Chaos was Rand al'Thor himself, as it seems to fit the orders not to harm him. He can be seen as a sort of literal 'Lord of Chaos', somebody who changes the present order of things. Also, interestingly, the Guide's section on feastdays state that a 'Lord/Lady of Chaos' is elected during Foolday; criteria for selection is acting like the 'greatest' fool. The 'winner' is elected Lord/Lady of Chaos and everybody follows his/her whims for the rest of the day. Narvi 09:33, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

- Point(s) taken. Thinking about it some more, it seems (from other references) that possibly the Dark One is referring to actual chaos itself (somewhat like how the "Shadow" is used to describe evil). If it does reference a person, I would agree that it would likely refer to Rand (the Guide's references could be interpreted in a way that supports this idea as well).Mhoskins 14:40, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
