Taringail Damodred was the nephew of King Laman Damodred, the son of Dalresin Damodred, and the half-brother of Anvaere, Innloine, and Moiraine Damodred.[1] His sign was a golden double-bitted battleaxe.

History[]

He married Tigraine Mantear, then the Daughter-Heir of Andor, and sired a son, Galadedrid. After Tigraine's disappearance and Tigraine's mother Queen Mordrellen's death, he married the new Queen, Morgase Trakand, in order to solidify her claim to the Lion Throne. In 978 NE, his uncle Laman was killed in the final battle of the Aiel War, but Taringail was prevented by law from accending to the Sun Throne due to his marriage with the Queen of Andor.[1] As Taringail was barred from the throne, Moiraine did not wish to be queen, and their two other sisters were unsuited to rule, the Sun Throne passed from House Damodred, and Galldrian Riatin became the next king.[2]

The following year, Taringail's first child with Morgase was born, a son named Gawyn. In 981 NE, a Daughter-Heir of Andor was born to the couple, named Elayne. In 984 NE, Taringail died in a "hunting accident" supposedly orchestrated by Thomdril Merrilin after a gleeman discovered Taringail's intent to murder Morgase which would have made him the first king of Andor.

In 1000 NE, Taringail's daughter Elayne became Queen of Cairhien by virtue of her claim through her father.
