Summary

Point of view: Egwene al'Vere

Egwene begins opening doors in the hall where Else and the woman in white disappeared. Elayne and Nynaeve catch up to her and Elayne is surprised that Else could outrun Egwene. Nynaeve says they will have to find Else later and warn her to be quiet about Liandrin and the storeroom. Egwene says she is not looking for Else but someone tall and striking with black eyes and hair.

Nynaeve says they need to go to the storeroom before Else can gossip to anyone about it and leads them to the storerooms below the library. It is very dark in the depths of the Tower and Elayne and Egwene channel the Power for balls of light. The arrive at the described room but the door is chained closed with a lock. Nynaeve works to make herself angry so she can channel and creates a big prybar with the Power to break the chain. But Egwene has already broken the chain with Earth and Nynaeve almost falls over when the chain falls apart easily.

They enter the storeroom and see thirteen bags, all tied and labeled. Egwene intuits how to tie off her ball of light weave and hangs it on the wall. Egwene does not know how she did it. After a moment, Elayne copies it and in doing so Egwene sees her do it and learns how it was done. This circular learning spooks Egwene a bit. They begin going through the belongings which are mostly old clothes. In one bag is a torn map of Tear. Another contains a book on the Tairen Court. More items scattered about include ship schedules to Tear, another book about Tear, sketches of Tairen buildings and lists of Inns in the city. Everyone left something about Tear behind. Nynaeve says it is bait or a trap, or they meant it to be obvious. Tonight Egwene will explore the World of Dreams to see if more can be learned.
