Setting: The Dragon's camp in the Mountains of Mist

Summary[]

Point of view: Perrin Aybara

Perrin again gets the urge to communicate with wolves but suppresses it. He returns to the camp and tells Moiraine and Min, who are both cross at Rand, that the earthquake was an accident. Loial, Uno and the Shienarans are fixing the damage. Perrin tells Min she should go home, but Min refuses, saying that a thing need not be bad just because it was chosen for her rather than by her. Perrin sees Rand sneaks back into camp. Rand skips dinner so that he doesn't have to come to the campfire and be seen by the Shienarans; he does not wish to lord over them.

Moiraine, Lan, Uno and Loial join them. Moiraine relates the news from Leya. Almoth Plain is in chaos. Hunters for the Horn of Valere have appeared on the plain, but they won't find the horn since it has already been found. A huge force of Whitecloaks is pushing out the Taraboners and Domani rather than attacking those following Rand.^[1] The Whitecloaks seem to be intentionally avoiding the Dragonsworn; they publicly announce that they will bring down the false Dragon but always arrive too late to find large bands of Dragonsworn. Loial suggests that Rand could go to his supporters as he wishes then, but Lan is sure that it is some convoluted Whitecloak plot. Three boys resembling Rand have been murdered, probably by Gray Men.

Moiraine feels that Rand's display likely alerted any nearby Fade, so the guards will need to be on high alert tonight. Perrin skips dinner as well and goes to his hut to sleep. He is part of the watch later and will need to be especially alert. After a while he falls asleep and starts dreaming.
