Summary[]

Point of view: Nynaeve al'Meara

Nynaeve thinks she sees Rand, but when she tries to get a better look, a cart moves between them. Nynaeve laments the high prices despite the low quality of meat. The mood of the people concerns her. In the Two Rivers, people picked themselves back up, instead of spending their days sulking. Nynaeve is frustrated that Egwene still objects to almost every suggestion she makes. At least she convinced Egwene to stop using the dream ring at night since the Black Ajah were in Tel'aran'rhoid. Thinking about the Black Ajah and Aes Sedai reminds her of how much she hates MoiraineJuilin finds Nynaeve and says the women she seeks are guests of the High Lord Samon. Juilin is very nervous and shifty. They walk back to Mother Guenna's house.

Nynaeve walks into the house and realizes it is a trap when she sees Guenna sitting in a chair unable to move. Liandrin walks into the room. Nynaeve tries to channel but finds herself shielded, so she punches Liandrin and Rianna Andomeran, trying to run out of range of the shielding. Liandrin and her companion use Air to beat Nynaeve. Liandrin says Nynaeve fought almost as fiercely as Egwene who was punished with Air too. Rianna is about to kill Guenna but Liandrin allows her to live in exchange for her silence, saying that Rianna kills too quickly when people can be used. Liandrin used Compulsion to make Juilin bring them to Nynaeve. Liandrin puts Nynaeve into her coach along with Elayne and Egwene to take her to her master, the High Lord Samon. Egwene is unconscious and badly bruised. Liandrin says they are bait, part of the plan laid by the Forsaken Be'lal. Nynaeve and Elayne try to bluff Liandrin into believing that they themselves are bait to capture the Black Ajah, but it has no apparent effect. Liandrin says only that after they are used as bait, they will be interrogated and then thirteen Myrddraal will be used to turn them to the Shadow.
