Summary[]
Point of view: Gawyn Trakand
Gawyn and his Younglings scout the forces of the Rebel Aes Sedai close to Tar Valon. They are having good success in predicting their movements mostly due to Gawyn's familiarity with Gareth Bryne. Still, soldiers for Bryne are searching for the Younglings and he has to be careful to avoid getting caught. He wonders if it is his lot in life to always fight against men he has considered mentors and friends. The Younglings withdraw without engaging, being afraid they might leave enough tracks to be followed by the Salidar scouts. Gawyn ponders his own role in the conflict, thinking he still hasn't chosen sides, and will need to do so. He wishes his force could be more effective, but he can't even figure out how supplies are reaching the soldiers which would give him a worthwhile target. He is more convinced than ever the Elaida is trying to get him and his force killed.
