Setting: Toman Head, Tel'aran'rhiod

Point of view: Rand al'Thor

It is very cold and raining where they are traveling. Hurin is searching for the trail left by Fain and the Trollocs, but without success so far.  Rand wants to know why Verin can’t change the weather.  Verin does not want them to be detected.  She says the Seanchan’s damane will know. Loial seems to worry more about his books getting wet than himself. Perrin wonders aloud why Fain would bring the Horn of Valere here. Verin and Ingtar debate the matter without coming to a conclusion. Masema rides back to them and says there is a village up ahead but all the villagers are gone. Ingtar dismounts in front of what appears to be an inn. Uno takes the rest of the men and searches houses for food and blankets.  Hurin says there was killing in some of the houses.  Ingtar insists he must have the Horn.  He sounds desperate.  Rand still says he wants to get away from Aes Sedai.  He finally tells the group that Fain will harm Emond's Field if he does not find him, which was part of the message from Barthanes.  Uno comes in, and said he could not find any people and most of the houses are stripped and the livestock gone.  Ingtar begins to organize a wider search for the trail left by Fain.

Rand goes upstairs, and finds a lumpy bed.  It will do, he thinks, there’s nowhere else to sleep.  Ba'alzamon is standing next to Rand’s bed.  He calls Rand Lews Therin again, and asks if he will kill everything he loves again.  Rand says he is not Lews Therin, and that he will die before he follows him.  Rand is holding saidin, and hurls it at Ba’alzamon.  Ba’alzamon again says he is the only one who can help Rand learn to channel.  He squeezed his eyes shut and can see tendrils of smoke rising from the chair, so he knows he had a real dream again.
