— Old saying known in the Two Rivers
<<< Into the Ways >>> |
Setting: Tear, The Ways |
Summary[]
- Point of view: Perrin Aybara
Perrin finishes packing and heads toward the stables, joined by Gaul. Perrin is afraid Moiraine will try to prevent him from leaving so he tries to keep his preparations secret, asking Gaul to help him, and takes back passages on his way to meet Loial. While looking for Thom Merrilin, Faile told many people that she is leaving via the Ways and Perrin hopes that Moiraine has not found out. Perrin asks Gaul to take Faile to safety should anything happen to him, and Gaul agrees although he is skeptical that Faile can be controlled. Gaul is traveling with Perrin to repay his blood debt, as Perrin previously saved his life.[1] They see very few people on the way to the stables and Gaul says it is because Rand has summoned many people to an audience in the Heart of the Stone.
At the stables they find that Bain and Chiad have joined Faile. Perrin asks if Gaul was skeptical about his ability to spirit Faile away because of the two Maidens and Gaul confirms that they would help resist him and he cannot fight them because of a water oath. Perrin is still at odds with Faile over her coming on the trip to the Two Rivers. They will travel the Ways as two groups with Perrin following. As the party finishes their preparations in the stables the Stone rings like a monstrous bell, shaking the ground and walls around them. The group gallops out the city gate and Loial leads them to the Waygate. Loial moans over the loss of the grove of trees that the Tairens cut down to make a grassland for their horses. Perrin and Gaul go through the Waygate and on to the first Guiding where they wait for Loial and the rest of the party to join them.
