Statistical Analysis

That sounds like a great piece of analysis! I think Statistical analysis is as good a place as any to stick it, and it's a valuable piece of data to have on hand. Probably stick it in Category:Series books unless something else presents itself to you... -- nae'blis 19:51, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

The single-page version is going to be huge when it's complete; I think the other option is to make them subpages of the books, like so: New Spring/Statistical analysis. Then it should be possible to transclude those into one main page, yet only have the numbers stored once in case you need to change anything. What do you think? -- nae'blis 22:38, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Just wanted to say that the new format works very well! -- nae'blis 18:51, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Category:Statistical analysis sounds good to me - make sure you drop it in tags so it doesn't get transcluded to the actual book pages. A header to each subpage that explains in brief what you say at the top of Statistical analysis also sounds like a good plan (also in noinclude tags to avoid repetition). -- nae'blis 21:21, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
So is there any chance we'll be getting a statistical analysis for New Spring any time soon? Or a word count for The Gathering Storm? No rush, but it would be nice and it looks like you've been the one spearheading that effort. Ninjatacoshell 22:11, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

booknav on chapter summary

Thanks for catching that, it's been a while since I made a new chapter summary from scratch! *embarrassed* -- nae'blis 14:57, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

I saw you tested it out. So what did you think?--OPTIMOUS 16:58, October 14, 2009 (UTC)

Its all good. No worries, and thanks for the advice.

Sorry for making extra work for you. Just trying to add some info. To be honest, I don't really know what I'm doing to put in the non-breaking spaces. I'll refrain from anymore edits until I figure out how I'm accidently putting those it.

SVG Files

Thanks! And by all means feel free to use them wherever appropriate. Ninjatacoshell 06:30, November 23, 2009 (UTC)

The titles should not have brackets around them on the character template because characters can have multiple titles. Such as Lan. So no brackets around title in character template.--OPTIMOUS 07:00, December 2, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your Help

Yeah, Ive been using this wiki for a while but I haven't really made many edits. I like seamus' work as well, I just want to make sure that I can upload it. It is his copywrite, but it is okay if I give him credit? How should I do this in the future?

I thanked Optimous, but perhaps I should thank you, for making the perm edit requesting verification in the Betrayal and capture section of the Egwene al'Vere eWOT page. For some reason the only name that showed up was Optimous but now that I am searching the details of this wiki I found you made the edit. I simply want to send thanks to all for their efforts and contributions.
Enjoy the weekend and happy valentine's day.

Different Icons

Just a quick question. Do you have a list of all of the differing icons for the books? The reversed icons and the ones that have different icons in earlier versions and such. I noticed what you put on one of the pages. Great job, by the way, on all of the SVG icons. Thanks for that! ---- Willie - HtS 21:54, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

No. I don't have a list. I'm actually at college and all of my copies of The Wheel of Time books are at my parents' house. So I've been checking them out from the college library and going off of those. That's when I noticed that some of them have different icons. If you notice any others, feel free to update the appropriate page(s). Ninjatacoshell 21:57, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

Ok, so should I also change all the pages linking to the real world dates? Or will those just get redirected? Rahien

They are redirects. So all real world dates redirect to the Wot dates. The September dates need to be changed.--OPTIMOUS 04:50, December 21, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the spoiler edit on Ramshalan. I was trying to figure out how to enclose all the paragraphs in the spoiler template when you fixed it for me. Now I know how!

I really appreciate it.

AoibheannSedai 03:58, December 21, 2009 (UTC)

Haha no problem. Happy to help. =) Rahien 00:56, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

World of Robert Jordan images

Hi, I just have a quick question. I've got all the images from TWORJWOT, but I'm reeeally not familiar with copyrights, so I'm not sure which one I should use when I start uploading some of them. Rahien 20:46, December 31, 2009 (UTC)

I'm thinking yes since the permission for the chapter art also includes "other visuals" permission. So I say go for it.--OPTIMOUS 21:21, January 6, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, that does help. Thanks! Ninjatacoshell 18:26, January 5, 2010 (UTC)

Found another: Wolfbrother - TEOTW 23 and TGH 14 Ninjatacoshell 21:27, January 6, 2010 (UTC)
I didn't add that one because in the copies that I have, the first one is "Wolfbrother" and the second is "Wolf brother", with the space. I don't know if that holds true with other editions. ---- Willie - HtS 21:30, January 6, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, in subsequent editions it is "Wolfbrother". That holds true for The Hunt Begins, too. I added a note to TGH 14. Ninjatacoshell 21:39, January 6, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, I saw the discussion at Category talk:Redirects and decided to start immediately. Good job on catching up the rest! Ninjatacoshell 00:39, January 10, 2010 (UTC)

Wanted Pages

Well, I did the deletion about a week ago, so refreshing isn't the problem. And I did check those other pages, but the problem isn't there either. (I chose a few random link from the WP section and Ctrl+F'd the pages and came up with nothing.) So yeah, I still can't find an explanation. @_@ Rahien 22:46, January 25, 2010 (UTC)

Maybe if you reset your cache it will work? Also for me it takes a while for those kind of things to update. Like some times weeks.--OPTIMOUS 00:04, January 27, 2010 (UTC)
And wouldn't you know. Now that you've asked, the problem is gone. xD Rahien 22:40, January 27, 2010 (UTC)

Well done

It seems you have taken the number one spot from me, in fact you are giving me a hiding now so I better start updating again. About a 1/4 through TGS now--GuanYu79 09:01, January 31, 2010 (UTC)

Congrats on becoming a Admin guy. Please don't abandon us like all the other guys do when they become admin as well--GuanYu79 22:08, February 23, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! I plan on being here for a while. :) ---- Willie - HtS 22:10, February 23, 2010 (UTC)

Cast list

I've been watching you update your cast list and think some of those picks are fantastic! Linda Hunt for Lini is dead on. I also like Kathy Bates for Verin. My thought for Moiraine though and it has always been this way for me was Kate Beckinsale. Just my idea.--OPTIMOUS 03:07, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

I could see Kate Bechinsale as Moiraine. The reason I thought of Mira Furlan is because of her work on Babylon 5 as Delen. When I read Moiraine, and when I listen to the audio books as well, I always think of Delen's accent. Thanks for the feedback! ---- Willie - HtS 16:31, February 5, 2010 (UTC)
I've never seen that show. I guess I need to watch it. Maybe it will change my pick :)--OPTIMOUS 18:29, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

Black Ajah names list

Very nice job. Thank you very much. Fatidiot1234 23:16, February 10, 2010 (UTC)

Recent changes

Is there any way you could set up recent changes as in Wikipedia, multiple changes to a given article on a single day are consolidated into a single line? Fatidiot1234 16:42, February 14, 2010 (UTC)

Works splendidly. Thank you very much. Mike Fatidiot1234 21:59, February 14, 2010 (UTC)

Cheers for clearing that up mate. I was wondering why there's a spoiler section without anything in it. As long as there is content there, I'm happy to leave well enough alone. I'm pretty new to this editing stuff. Astro Droid 02:22, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for moving the Lewin page and linking the new character page to the disambiguation. And I’ve left a message on the community page thingy, so it works. Cheers.

Image deletion

Just wanted to thank you for deleting the images as you did. Kept seeming to make mistakes as I was uploading them. I'm hoping I'm okay to upload all these images, by the way? I'd love to edit eventually too but don't have time at the moment, so figure I might as well make the wiki have visual information as well as textual. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 01:10, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

No problem about the deletions. It happens. Since the images are properly sourced, they should be fine. I'll make sure, though. Great to have you here! ---- Willie - HtS 01:22, March 21, 2010 (UTC)
Forgot to mention, you may also want to delete the old revision of this file as I uploaded it under the wrong name. The comic is rather confusing as to who's talking so I had to go back to the novel to find out. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 01:44, March 21, 2010 (UTC)
Done. Let me know if you need any more help. ---- Willie - HtS 01:53, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

Character template

Hi there. Just thought I'd let you know that the reason I changed the character template was so that the Asmodean page worked properly. With both infoboxes calling for the WoT encyclopedia, it meant there was 2 links and also that the text was being moved around to make way for the second such link. I don't actually know why that page even has two infoboxes when others don't, but there we go. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 11:55, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

There was some formatting that was missing from his page for the text problem. The two links are fine. The reason that he has the two infoboxes is mainly because of Aginor and Balthamel. When a character has been re-born or has assumed an alias for a long period of time, they get two (or more) infoboxes. I fixed the problem on Asmodean's page. Let me know if you have any more questions. :) ---- Willie - HtS 12:10, March 27, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I had actually removed the formatting because it was causing even bigger problems. With the "clear all" tag, the page looks like this on higher resolutions, whereas without it, the page looks like this. The other reason for adding the "if" statement to the template is because this wiki may eventually have pages that the WoT Encyclopedia doesn't have. For example, I'm likely to add pages on Lords Argirin Darelos and Ballin Elamri who only exist in the CCG, and so the WoT Encyclopedia don't have pages on them. Just seemed to make more sense to me. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 04:11, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

I'm up to tgs chapter 46 and the new character Lairain is introduced. I'm uncertain now what all new Aes Sedai's affiliation's are due to Elaida now gone and the White Tower is whole. Any ideas--GuanYu79 07:22, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

I brought this up here. I think that all of "Elaida a'Roihan's White Tower" and "Rebel Aes Sedai" will revert to "White Tower" or whatever it was before the split. However, we would need to manually categorize those people to show that they either remained in the Tower or rebeled. Unaligned Sisters would remain the same. Sound good to you? ---- Willie - HtS 15:00, March 29, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah that sounds good. I agree there still should be a reference within the character profile as to whether they were rebel or loyal rather than all Aes Sedai just being white Tower affiliation--GuanYu79 21:22, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

Just doing Bertain Gallenne's character page. Do we have a good Mayene flag to put in his character template. Did Bertain's template but just can't seem to work out how to do the colours for Amathera Aelfdene Casmir Lounault,. Could you help me out please--GuanYu79 01:51, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah worked it out in the end and was quite surprised. I'm putting in the new colour templates for Asha'man and Seanchan and as yet, there has been no change in colour. Is there any reason for this? ie check out Jinjin, Karldin Manfor, Jur Grady and Fager Neald.--GuanYu79 02:41, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

Just a quick word. I'm not going to be doing too much in the way of altering text or such, just basically fixing grammar, punctuation, and such. As it stands right now, I'm not seeing too much in the way of spelling errors, grammar, or punctuation errors, but I'm catching them as I go. Since editing such a massive (and fun, did I mention the fun?) wiki is usually seat-of-the-pants flying, it'll be a touch-and-go deal. So, if I mess with something you guys don't want messed with, just let me know. Also, I'm not here to step on any toes, so if my name pops up as editing a page you've already edited, please don't take it personally. I'm not that kind of person, just fixing small things as I see them. So, happy reading and editing to everyone! JoeMat 07:18, April 15, 2010 (UTC)JoeMat

Unnamed characters

Hey I'm not sure why your worried with the unnamed characters. Why don't we try and get all named characters done first and then look at what's left to do. There are still a ton of characters that have been named that haven't been written up yet and there are some such as maids, bartenders etc that I don't really care about and haven't mentioned--GuanYu79 23:07, May 5, 2010 (UTC)

Worried, no. Not even all that concerned. It is, however, a project that I have been thinking about and working on for a while. It is also is part of the statistical analysis that I am doing. ---- Willie - HtS 01:54, May 6, 2010 (UTC)

So some thoughts I had were what should we do about year links? Should we make a whole bunch of redirects to Timeline? Ideas?--OPTIMOUS 18:51, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

Looking at the Wanted Pages listing, are we? :) :) :) Redirects should be good. I would recomend adding some of those "anchor" things on the Timeline page. Same as on the Glossary pages as well as 999 NE, so that the redirects can go directly to that particular year. I was going to try to create some of those pages, but I didn't know about the Timeline page and I never got around to it. Sounds great.---- Willie - HtS 18:56, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
Found it. They are cite id's. <cite id="year" /> That should allow a "#" on the redirect page so that the redirect will go directly to the year. Or did you have something else planned? ---- Willie - HtS 19:15, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
That sounds good to me. If you know what's going on you can go for it. I am currently fixing up 1000 NE so it looks like the other years. Removing the unused dates and color. I'll also add TGS dates.--OPTIMOUS 19:19, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

Oath Rod

Hi. On the Oath Rod page it says that "Swearing oaths causes a tightening of the skin, which is responsible for the "ageless" look of Aes Sedai." I remember it being stated that the oaths feel tight on the skin but not that the feeling of constriction being the cause of the ageless look. I believe this to be speculation as i do not remember it being specifically stated in the series, however i may be wrong. Can you provide any verification?

Thanks.Rahl404 02:51, June 25, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for joining up! I changed the page to a somewhat better wording. We do know why it happens. The Oath Rod was originaly a binder for criminals. Break the law and you get a distinctive look that everyone knows. Kind of like a long-term branding. As for how, it is the "mechanics" of the rod. The "how" on several other devices, or even the One Power itself, isn't known. How does the wording work now? ---- Willie - HtS 03:03, June 25, 2010 (UTC)

Much better thanks, sorry for being so picky, i was worried that i missed something in the story. Rahl404 03:35, June 25, 2010 (UTC)

Character template

Well done boss looks like you have pretty much finished your character template project. Whats next on the cards? I'm having a bit of a break. We need to try to get some one in to write up all the chapter summaries and I reckon that this site would be pretty sweeeeeet--GuanYu79 21:56, June 25, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! I've got about four left and then I'm done. This past week, I have had more time to edit that I normally do, so I took advantage of it. Hmm. Chapter summaries. That might be something. I've also been taking a crack at the Wanted pages listing. I also have an idea for all of the Houses. Most of them have very little information, so creating individual pages for each might be a bit much. More to come on that. Thanks again! ---- Willie - HtS 22:04, June 25, 2010 (UTC)

Comic pictures in summaries

How should we do this? I was adding a couple on the new spring chapters and was going to have multiple like here New Spring/Chapter 3 but the problem as you can see trying to shove them only under characters doesn't work. Should we only do 1 maybe 2 pictures or spread it out? As in put some in the summary area?--OPTIMOUS 20:35, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

Also since they are pictures of people's faces should we continue having the caption be a quote they said in that chapter?--OPTIMOUS 20:36, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

If the summary is long enough, that is it extends the text below the TOC, then adding the pics in the summaries is fine. I don't think, however, that the chapter pages should become galleries for those pics. Three, maybe four, should be good. Maybe add a link to the New Spring comic page onto the chapter list on the right?
I think that the quotes are a better way to go for this. Just adding "Basram, a soldier in Lan Mandragoran's army" doesn't really add anything. That can be found in the summary itself and on Basram's page. A quote from the person adds context to the picture, in my opinion.
Also, are those templates for what I think they're for? Or are they for something else. :):) ----- Willie - HtS 01:04, June 30, 2010 (UTC)
Alright that sounds good to me. Haha. I thought they would help :P--OPTIMOUS 03:11, June 30, 2010 (UTC)

Creature template

I like the idea. I think I got the EWOT to work on the first one. I tested it on bela.--OPTIMOUS 18:41, June 30, 2010 (UTC)

THANKS!!! I was about ready to bang my head against the wall. I'll do up the explination on the template page. Thanks again! :) ---- Willie - HtS 18:46, June 30, 2010 (UTC)
No problem. So for the "Chronological and ownership information" it doesn't make much sense if it is a trolloc or a wolf since they are not owned. So maybe an if statement to add the "and ownership" part only if it is a horse or a pet.--OPTIMOUS 18:53, June 30, 2010 (UTC)
Alright I got it.--OPTIMOUS 19:04, June 30, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! I added in the categorization, so now we'll see if it works. ----- Willie - HtS 19:09, June 30, 2010 (UTC)

Hide feature on the chapter summaries

I have an idea. What if we have the summary template hidable. Like the list of chapter names so if someone wants to see it they can expand it to see them but it wont take up space. Thoughts?--OPTIMOUS 19:45, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

Are you talking about the chapter list on the right? If so, yes, that would be a great idea. I don't know if it is my browser or what, but that think takes up about twice the amount of space it should, width-wise. But being able to collapse it, or even having it collapsed in the first place, would be great. ---- Willie - HtS 19:57, July 8, 2010 (UTC)
Alright I will get on with figuring it out then!--OPTIMOUS 20:22, July 8, 2010 (UTC)
Alright what do you think? To see it go to a chapter summary or main book and click edit.--OPTIMOUS 20:57, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

Is there any way to move the [hide] and [show] button? Right now, it kind of covers the word "Chapters". Other than that, looks great!!! ---- Willie - HtS 21:14, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

I suspect you are either using internet explorer or safari? Those are the ones I tested it out on and had that problem. I use Opera nad firefox and it is fine but I'll see what I can do.--OPTIMOUS 21:38, July 8, 2010 (UTC)
Alright it is good to go now I think.--OPTIMOUS 21:53, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

Towers of Midnight Countdown

There is a system message coming up at the top of pages that says: ' Tower of Midnight Countdown'. I presume that there is supposed to be some sort of actual countdown (to the publication date) here. But that text is all that is there.

I know that Wikia has been a bit weird the last few days, so I don't know if this is a problem with the wiki or them.

But seeing as I'm surfing off back to work on my own wiki, I thought I'd bump this to someone who could look into it.

David Shepheard 16:06, July 10, 2010 (UTC)

Edits at new article

A few things:

 1. I'm not sure why you added the information to Hall of the Tower during the White Tower Schism. Everything you added as "unmerged content" was already included.
 2. I don't understand why you changed figures to words for numbers. It is fairly standard to use words for numbers under 10 and figures for numbers 10 and up. Certainly different people use different cut-offs, but why did you "correct" what was purely a matter of style? Is there a style guide I'm not aware of?
 3. It is unnecessary to repeat the title of a page in code for a category. The only time you use a pipelink in the category code is when you want something other than the title to appear.

-Rrius 20:02, July 14, 2010 (UTC)

The conspiracy was not mentioned on that page. It should be. The numbers, in my opinion, looks better spelled out. And the "unnecessary code" is necessary. It properly categorizes the page in the respective categories. Take a look at the categories to see how it is listed. Please let me know if you have any other questions. ---- Willie - HtS 20:06, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
The conspiracy was in fact mentioned. I understand that you like the way words look to that of figures, but that does not explain why your preference trumps everyone else's. Shouldn't the preference of the creator an article trump that of later editors? For categories, It is not clear why you think so many articles need to be listed at the beginning of the category instead of under the alphabetical listing. Even assuming there is a good reason, your method is not the best way. It is preferable to use . I've tested Aes Sedai and Hall of the Tower during the White Tower Schism, and it does in fact work the same as at any other wiki. -Rrius 20:26, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
At Category:Aes Sedai, there are 34 items before the list starts. Even if there is some valid reason only listing people under the alphabetical sections, 34 is so many that a new category makes far more sense than listing them all at the beginning. -Rrius 20:29, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
Actually, having looked, the only AS listed should have been in a lower category. There is simply no justification for any article other than Aes Sedai and Aes Sedai (Age of Legends) not being alphabetized in the normal way. -Rrius 20:34, July 14, 2010 (UTC)

As it stood before I redid all of the character categorization, in any given category, if it contained both character pages and non-character pages, all of the non-character pages where categorized under the "space" heading and not under their respective letters. The trick you mentioned (), won't properly alphabetize those in the "space" heading. The order is detirmined by when they were added. However, now that there are no more characters in that category, it is fine that they are under their respective letter headings.

As to the numbers issue, almost everywhere else on this wiki, the numbers have been spelled out where practical (i.e. not done with very large numbers). Also, as to the "creator" of an article, this is a wiki. No one "owns" any of the mainspace pages. It is common for numbers that can be expressed in one or two words to be spelled out, or expressed as numerals. Since almost all of the other pages spell them out, I decided to follow suit.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. ---- Willie - HtS 22:13, July 14, 2010 (UTC)

I noticed how the ordering works here and have acted accordingly. However, I suggest that where one article is the main one dealing with the category, it should be the only spaced one, and others put ahead of the humans should be , which will create a new asterisk section above the As.
As to numbers, my point is not that a creator of an article owns it, but that no one does. Where something is merely a stylistic preference, I object to its being changed. Since you and I could wheel revert over the issue ad infinitum, some means of choosing between the methods should exist. Since there is no neutral source to turn to, such as a WOT Wiki style guide, I think it makes the most sense that the first style choice made should prevail.

Also, as an aside, many wikis generally follow their subject's way of doing things. For example, since Star Trek is an American production, Memory Alpha uses American spelling. Since we are a wiki for a litterary work, it stands to reason to follow our subject's way of doing things. Take a look at TGS 39 where Egwene goes over a few things from Verin's book. Happy editing! ---- Willie - HtS 22:20, July 14, 2010 (UTC)

I have no idea what you are talking about with this bit. If it is about the number issue, it appears to follow the method I use as it refers to "17 Whites", and no other numbers between 10 and 20. If it is about the spelling of "grey", I try to use "gray", but despite being an American, I have always used "grey", just as I have always used "colour", "labour", and "behaviour". If it is neither of those things, I'd appreciate an explanation because I am genuinely in the dark. -Rrius 22:57, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
More to the point, if it is about numbers, the analogy isn't apt. It makes sense to follow the nation of origin for choosing among variations of English, but there is no compelling (or even persuasive) reason for following the publisher or author's particular stylistic choices. -Rrius 23:06, July 14, 2010 (UTC)

I do see the consiracy (at least I did after I posted my first response). Sorry about that. As to the categorization, it is kind of a moot point now, so I won't comment further.

The analogy, I guess in retrospect, wasn't ment to be taken all that seriously. Kind of why I started out with "as an aside." However, the issue should still be discussed at Help talk:Style guide. Also, whose "first style choice" are you talking about? ---- Willie - HtS 04:54, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

Well, it was hard to figure out how seriously to take it because, as I said, I wasn't clear on what you were saying. In any event, what I meant by "first style choice" was the style choice made first. Whether to use words or figures is a purely stylistic choice. I made one when I initially wrote the article. My point is that since the two of us could revert back and forth at the article forever, some basis for choosing must exist. Since we don't have a rule, it makes sense that was was initially done should stand. Where something is purely a question of personal style preference (i.e., there is no correct answer), it strikes me that we should all refrain from changing it, and I'm not sure I see an argument for doing otherwise. -Rrius 00:40, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry about analogy thing. :)

The number issue should still be discussed at the style guide talk page. Since this could go either way, there should be continuity throughout the wiki. Having one style on some pages and another style on other pages doesn't really work. Also having a single page "locked" into a particular style and others not isn't really enforsable. For example, what happens six months from now when someone who doesn't know you created that article and doesn't know you want the numbers a certain way changes it? What happens when someone decides to be bold and completely re-writes the article? Different words, different style, the whole she-bang. Would you still object? It would be a "stylistic preference," yes? That is why this should be discussed at the style guide talk page. ---- Willie - HtS 01:10, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, i understand what your saying and i know where the preview page is but i saved it so many times because the comptuer that i was using for that edit was acting up and i didnt want to lose the work. I think that they should put in a different botton to publish the edit. Jak o Shadows

Just wondering, what was wrong with the Jak o Shadows page i made????????Death Grey 08:03, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

The article is about the song, so I moved to to the full title of the song: Dance with Jak o' the Shadows. Other than that, there was some formatting that I did as well as adding a stanza that was changed. Feel free to let me know if you need more detail. :) ---- Willie - HtS 13:16, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Graendal's status

The readers are lead (by the text) to think she is dead. Rand thinks she is dead. There is no supporting text for her survival; and finally after Rand balefired all of Natrin's Barrow, Ramshalan's compulsion disappears proving she was destroyed (TGS, ch37). At least the status should be changed to "unknown". Having her status remain "ALIVE" is too misleading (unless you know something that we do not know and you are determined to keep this your own secret) the status must be changed to something other than "ALIVE". I suggest her status be changed to "Unknown". Respectfully, Ronmamita 10:05, September 24, 2010 (UTC)

I've started adding pages from the ToM, but a storm is approaching (RL, lol) so I will put on hold for a while but thank you for the template and hopefully other readers (who jumped ahead to read all the prologue and chapter 8 spoilers) will continue adding additional text. Ronmamita 15:42, September 28, 2010 (UTC)

Spoiler alert - Border Towers

This refers to my Borderlands Towers suggestion in the hidden spoiler alert on the Talk:ToM/Prologue page. I'm requesting feedback on my idea that we include these chain of watch towers on existing pages (I'm thinking that either existing page for Borderlands or each of the independent provinces would be better) rather than have more stub pages cluttering the wiki. Replying on the Talk:ToM/prologue would be very helpful so everyone can see and follow the agreed upon format. Thank you in advance. Sincerely Ronmamita 22:33, September 30, 2010 (UTC)

Pretty colors; I did not know that there would be different kinds of badges, lol hope it goes well.

BS is frequently using "tavernkeeper" instead of innkeeper in TOM 8 the infobox doesn't recognize "tavernkeeper". This may cause some confusion. Ronmamita 12:09, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the catorgory help :) I've notice sometimes you add a default sort code at the bottom of some pages and not others; can you explain this for me, and if this isn't a administrator only feature, perhaps I should follow this standard to reduce administrative tedium. I don't want to be an administrator but I don't want to create unnecesary edits either, if they can be avoided. Just a thought. Ronmamita 20:48, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

People with a last name should be sorted by their last name. You would add to those people. This sorts the page in all categories it is added to by last name, regardless of how the page comes to be in that category. Right now, we aren't doing it for the Aes Sedai. See Category talk:People for more info. ---- Willie - HtS 21:03, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

I was thinking we should maybe have like a forum editing track? What do you think?--OPTIMOUS 21:24, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

I enabled it for the "Forum" category, but I don't know if it will include sub-categories. Could you try and edit one of the forum pages? ---- Willie - HtS 21:35, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

Nope. Odd. I wonder if it's only for creating new threads?--OPTIMOUS 21:40, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

I think it would only be for that specific category. For example, creating a track in "Category:Andor (people)" would allow users to gain badges by editing Andoran people's pages. ---- Willie - HtS 21:43, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

Speaking of badges. Is there any list somewhere on what badges exists? And does more badges grant access to more parts of the site, or are they just for fun? I'm new to this, as you probably know. Thought I'd ask you, since you seem to be the top-dog around here. - JackEriksson 18:55, January 13, 2011 (UTC)

There is not a list of what badges exist. Also, more badges do not grant you access to more parts of the site. They're just for fun. ---- Willie - HtS 19:00, January 13, 2011 (UTC)

I don't want to be a pain about this, but I have been on every day in February (check my contribs), and still have not gotten two weeks on the wiki. Seems it resets at 13. May have something to do with using UTC internally. Joe 00:40, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

I was thinking we should have a certain size or less be considered be a stub. Like anything less then 500 bytes is a stub. This would cut down on the number of stubs we have. It would also give us the opportunity to be considered for being on the spotlight here.--OPTIMOUS 21:31, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

The thing with that is some pages are always going to be short. Danshu, Stinkweed, Stedding Jentoine are examples of pages that, as far as we know right now, aren't going to have a whole bunch of information added to them. I'm going to have some time here in a week. Let me take a look at the stub category and see if there are pages there that shouldn't be stubs and maybe expand some that are. ---- Willie - HtS 21:45, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

My account: "Ronmamita" is unable to edit or create new pages. I guess last night's changes I made to my preferences caused a conflict in my windows IE browser? Can you still log in? If so, go directly to Special:Preferences. That should allow you to change your preferences. ---- Willie - HtS 13:54, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm... this is a slight improvement as anonymous(not logged in) I can now edit this page, wonder why its not op when I login? (Ronmamita) 18:45, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

Heres what happens after login. The "more" (where you access preferences) tab is disabled as well as the edit fuctions for pages (in fact the text doesn't even show up for editing existing pages) typing in text is disabled. I won't be contributing until I can get this fixed. It has been a fun journey o/ Sincerely, Raonmamita 20:16, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

New templates

This wiki needs an entry on the Song of Growing that the Tinkers are looking for.

Is there some way of...

...flagging changes to be reverted/articles to be removed better than editing the page? It takes so long to add such a simple piece of metadata. — fbstj 20:01, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

Are you talking about vandalisim/deletions? If so, then sort-of/no. For reversions, admins have the option to just click on a link (called Rollback) and have it done, without the need for an actual edit page or clicking the save button. As for the deletions, there really isn't. If you see a large group of pages that need to be deleted, you can just list them on my talk page. Or was I off-base on this? ---- Willie - HtS 20:15, October 29, 2010 (UTC)
It was more a 'report for deleting/reverting' button, that would be cool. I realise that they dont exist at the moment, but still, would be cool :D Thanks — fbstj 09:14, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

Spoiler Template

Just wondering about something that seems to happen to spoiler templates randomly. I know that refs in the spoiler will prevent the template from hiding, but something else seems to cause this as well. Like on the Noam page, there's nothing except text in the template, but the show/hide option doesn't show up. I don't believe it's just my own computer. Do you know why? Rahien 23:55, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

I'm not seeing the problem. What browser are you using? I know that IE can be kind of futzy with wiki software. ---- Willie - HtS 02:43, November 11, 2010 (UTC)
I use Firefox. And Windows, if that makes any difference too. Rahien 03:33, November 11, 2010 (UTC)
Maybe it is just my computer, because I went back to the Noam page and it worked. It seems to happen very randomly. @_@ Rahien 00:13, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
With the book out for a month now shall we discard the spoiler template--GuanYu79 07:39, December 8, 2010 (UTC)

There seems to be a discrepancy with the Headlines. How shall we go about doing them. Do you want an activities headline like so

Headline text

and then any further headlines within there as so

Headline text

or do you want all headlines as the first option--GuanYu79 21:01, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

No worries about the extra edits. I'm the grunt that gets all the information down but I'm not really company savy so never know what all that other stuff you put in means--GuanYu79 23:51, November 16, 2010 (UTC)

I hate to be a bother but i just realized that I had read a page from a book wrong. I was looking through the WoRJtWoT and read about the Tamyrlin ring and thought it was making reference to something else. However, as far as i know, there isn't an actual "Tamyrlin Seat", it's simply a ring. I guess i just combined some info in my head and wrote out what i though I was reading. As there is already a page on the ring, would you remove the page about the Seat? sorry for any inconvenience...Age o legends52 04:56, November 17, 2010 (UTC)

Not a problem. I'll take a look at the Guide soon and combine the Seat and Ring pages. Thanks! ---- Willie - HtS 05:00, November 17, 2010 (UTC)

Deleted page shows that a page was deleted because the title couldn't be found.

Master of the Horse is a title used by the commander of cavalry that ride to war under a noblewoman. The Path of Daggers, Chapter 23 (page 471) - "She had not joined the charge herself , of course, any more than Ailil, but Anaiyella's Master of the Horse had, and the man was most definitely dead, with a Taraboner lance through his chest."

At the time, I didn't remember that reference and neither could anyone else. If you feel that you could create a good page about it, like the Second Captain of the Companions, feel free. Let me know if you have any other questions. Glad to have you here! ---- Willie - HtS 19:00, November 20, 2010 (UTC)

Right, you remember those templates I posted about? See here, there are loads of p templates, each for doing what seems to be a single little part of what my (or other) templates are doing. Can you agree that that is HORRIBLE? — fbstj 21:01, November 20, 2010 (UTC)

I'll admit that there are templates here that I don't have the first clue about and some that seem redundant. I'll look into the templates and see what can go. ---- Willie - HtS 15:40, November 21, 2010 (UTC)
Well I think I got rid of the necesity of the p templates, I replaced the bt and bt underscored with ones that do things directly (similar to my ones) but you should check out the template talk pages I made recently. Also have you seen the improved Nation? I thought it'd be nice to have infobox's that were easier to edit, and that was the smallest one. I've just thought of an even better arrangement for the infobox situation. Thanks — fbstj 20:00, November 21, 2010 (UTC)

Morgase Trakand

I noticed you were the latest editor of Morgase Trakand's page so you may be best to answer a question I have... I noticed there was no mention of Tallanover on her page and wondered why? It's not a big deal as it's just something I noticed. I would add it myself, but I'm not a writer and didn't want to mess up what you had already organized. :)

Love this site, by the way!

Well, that edit was just a minor correction. However, the fact that he isn't mentioned is because no one has added the info to the page yet. The info could be added to the Abdication and Kidnapping section if you are so inclined. More info is always better than less! :) ---- Willie - HtS 05:48, November 25, 2010 (UTC)

Hello and greetings, I just joined the site a couple days ago and I thought I'd just send a message to the top editor of the page. Looking forward to contributing to the site and getting to know the community a little better. Any words of wisdom before I start going in depth into the site would be helpful, as well as any tips. Thanks, HB-

Noal Charin

Hey what do you plan to do with Noal and his obvious companion page now they are both one and the same. Also do you plan to correct some names on here to their proper names such as Elimindra, al'Lan and Fortuna. Just a side note did you undo the last edit I did on Mat. I didn't write that emperor thing beside his name but for some reason it said I did and there were some formating and spelling changes I did--GuanYu79 23:36, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

Noal and Jain do need to be combined. I'll take a look at how to go about that.
As for proper names, I'm not sure. Redirects make it easy to direct the more familiar names (Min, Lan, Tuon) to their proper name. In almost all cases, the more proper of those names direct the the common names. Some, such as Min, I would have no problem with. The "al" infront of Lan's name is his title, meaning "King." Some would say that it shouldn't be there, however his parents, al'Akir and el'Leanna, have it. And then in the case of Tuon, it was a complete name change. Would we also change Egeanin Tamarath to Leiwin Shipless?
At Help:Style guide#People, it states that "Articles on people should be located at the expected full name." To me, that means that they should be at thier full names (i.e. Elmindreda, al'Lan, Zarine, ect). I'll put up a forum post to get more comments on this and try to get a list of what characters would have to be moved.
As for the Mat thing, someone else had added the emperor and such before you corrected some spelling.
Thanks for bringing all this up! ---- Willie - HtS 23:56, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

Location of Female Choedan Kal

Going through the wiki I found two Sea Folk islands that claim to be the location of the Female Choedan Kal; Aile Somera and Tremalking. I'm not totally sure myself on its location. Do you know?

It's Tremalking. ---- Willie - HtS 04:44, December 6, 2010 (UTC)

So are all the "Recent Activities" on Aile Somera truly pertaining to Tremalking or did the Sea Folk vessel Wavedancer still travel there to see the events of the mass suicide?

The info on the Aile Somera page is wrong. Aile Somera was part of a set of stops for Wavedancer, but may have been called to Tremalking when they heard of the Choedan Kal melting. I'll fix the Somera page. ---- Willie - HtS 01:02, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

The Stat pages you've made are amazing! It's hard to believe that you've never liked fantasy before reading these books. What do you generally like to read then?

Nisha noire 22:21, December 30, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! I'm working on TGS and ToM right now. Generally, it was Tom Clancy and Dean Koontz as well as select Star Trek novels. ---- Willie - HtS 22:36, December 30, 2010 (UTC)

I would be happy to, but I'm not sure what you mean. I've just been trying to copy and paste what I've seen on other pages for ref tags. Is there a page with specific instructions on adding the notes you'd like to see? Or an example so I can just look at the coding for it?

Thank you for the message. I wasn't sure what goes under history.

I can't help but think that the title "description" rather than "appearence" might be better suited as personality traits and strenght in the power aren't really a "history" so to speak but just the relativly unchaging nature of the character, like their physical appearence. If the intent was that these things should be under appearence (I notice that sometimes strength in the power was added someone to appearence), then appearence is kind of a misnomer. Is there a way to have this changed?

Now that I know more about what history is supposed to be I'll try to add to it what needs to be there. Until I hear from you, I'll keep adding personality and strength to the appearence, but I won't change the heading to description

I'll keep plugging along with the book! ha ha I'm working my way through COT (obviousy, ha ha)

Aes Sedai Category

Hello! I'm sorry, I seem to have created a page called Aes Sedai (people) but decided against it without consulting you first....but now its there >_<

The reason I created such a page in the first place was that I wanted to make a category where all the accepted Aes Sedai are listed. Maybe there is already something similar in place? I guess there is a color ajah category, so maybe its not necissary.

But anyway, can I delete the page I created since it's not being used? Thanks and sorry!

Nisha noire 00:06, January 1, 2011 (UTC)

Couldn't find it, so no worries. Also, just to let you know, if a page is in a subcategory, it doesn't need to be in a parent category. ---- Willie - HtS 00:34, January 1, 2011 (UTC)

Hey! Okay cool. ha ah. I notice the " " thing, I'll try using that now. Sorry about the subcategories, I couldn't really tell what categories are in what thing. I'll try to be careful, but I may still mess up so thank you in advance for knowing about it and fixing it. I noticed I did have a few success stories though. Yay!

The same categories in the actual page don't display in the edit page preview for some reason. So I add them, thinking they aren't there. I apolgize for the inconvience.

Yeah, those listings as categories aren't necissary. I just was trying to test and see if it would help improve the find feature in the add image. It didn't. It seems to only look at the title.

about the ubloaded pictures-FiF

hello mainphramephreak,u asked me about the pictures that i had uploaded a few days earlier, they came from DragonMount website,i liked the art style, thanks for changing the Moiraine Name...

i'm new here and i just wanted to thank u alot for this wonderful wiki...if i may ask u,what would u prefer at the end of the series??that Rand dies or lives??? it won't be a spoiler, not exactly, since we won't know what will happen in the last book, but i never had any chance to discuss this series with anyone who cares,in my country, people still think that LOTR is a movie not a movie based on a novel....

my best regards

FiF 11:37, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me. Another user found the information.
We always like new users, so thanks for joining!
As for Rand, I'm not sure. I would like for him to live, but I would also have liked for him to keep his hand, too. I've never like one of the main characters being maimed.
Again, thanks for joining and I hope to working with you! ---- Willie - HtS 02:38, January 9, 2011 (UTC)
i should be the one to thank you, your wiki is amazing, how could you keep up with all these informations?? you seem to rememeber every detail and small thing in the books...i get lost sometimes, especially after the books tended to follow different characters' POV and i was like:"what's this has to do with anything???" for Rand's hand, same here...hated that...hope he survives...he suffered so much...
well....what do u think the movie based on TEOTW will be like...what actor you see fit to play Rand,Perrin and Mat?sorry if i'm being annoying but man it's great to see people like me...
i haven't found an actor that would make a good Rand nor Perrin, Shea Labuff(hope i spelled it right) might be a good Mat,Megan Fox could be a good Nynaeve,Lan???i thought about Viggo Mortensen but i can imagine him only as Aragorn...
Thank you for The great work...i hope i can be of use someday...

Thanks + Help

Thanks for going over the songs I added. I searched the site but could not see how to add notes. If you can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I have a lot more stuff to add, including all songs, books, stories and herbs.Joedmd 00:16, January 19, 2011

I created a page with a typo - River Iradell should be River Iralell. Also River Iralell already has an entry because it is the name of a place, so what should the name of the song page be? Thanks.Joedmd 03:26, January 20, 2011 (UTC)

Ok. I got it. But in this category, you may actually want the titles to appear in the listing, becuase no title is primary or correct. I am going in order of appearance, but tinker in the kitchen has lyrics, so I made it primary to the drunken peddler, but shouldn't the drunken peddler at least be listed on the category page? If you disagree, just let me know - you are the boss.Joedmd 04:45, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

I have a list of 31 in-story books. Do you suggest creating an individual short page for each one, or creating a list page under culture:books. Or, do I create a list on the category page itself?Joedmd 18:13, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

The Nine Rings redirect

The page entitled The Nine Rings redirects to The Great Hunt/Chapter 20. The Nine Rings is the name of an inn, though and it also a story. How do I go about creating a different page with the same title for those 2 items?

Thanks.Joedmd 02:58, January 20, 2011 (UTC)

I saw that move, thanks I didn't realize the category existed. In legends, you have a stories page, which is just a list. If I have additions to that list, should I add them there first and then see if someone wants to make a page for each one? I also see that very little info is documented. Should I add footnotes where they belong?

New finn category

Creating the page about Chamber of Bonds is struck me that perhaps there should be a category for pages related to the Finns. After all, most other groups of pages have categories. A diverse group of pages related to them could be included like Finn, Chamber of Bonds, Twisted redstone doorframe, Tower of Ghenjei, Ashandarei... What you think? --JackEriksson 22:58, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

I went ahead and did so. :) --JackEriksson 00:56, January 22, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the message, but you see, I have no idea where and how to do what you just suggested. Still very new to this kind of stuff. So it would be much apreciated if you could tell me where and how to add the template to the picture instead of adding categories,

Hi :) Sorry about the refs - I did look to find what the preferred format was when adding them, but I couldn't find anywhere that said they went outside the period. I was probably just being blind, but if it's not there, perhaps it should be added to the new users' help page?

For the New User Guide

Hello again. I have an idea regarding a lack of structure here. We have AHA! as a guide to use for characters, but it doesn't really apply to many other categories - you can't really use it with plants, for example. It's not a major problem when you're editing a page, but when you create a page it can be almost overwhelming without a basic guide. So I think maybe create something like an AHA! for each vastly different category and have them on the user guide. For example, for plants it could be something like PUD! (properties, usage, distribution). If there were basic set structures, it might make each page a little cleaner, and hopefully encourage people to add more info because they will know where to put it. It might also reduce the amount of editing you personally need to do to get the pages up to scratch.

Simpler things that I think could be included in the guide:

 • The use of American English
 • Where New Spring and the Guide fit chronologically. Everything pre-Book 1 being historical is understandable. But when including appeared and mentioned info in the character templates, does our chronology or the character's chronology come first? Tsutama is a good example because in the order of books published she first appeared in A Crown of Swords and next appeared in New Spring, but in her chronology obviously she appears first in NS
 • Format regarding people's names. I think that full names should be used the first time they are mentioned in an article, and then should revert to first name only for subsequent mentions
 • Proper usage of refs

Thanks, hope my suggestions are welcome :) Daea 17:46, February 8, 2011 (UTC)

Please allow me to add to Joe's post as I have a problem creating new headers. I don't understand why, byt I'm not allowed to see the code view of pages, making it impossible for me to create new headers and sub-headers on pages. List Pages

Hi :) What's the go with making lists? Categories are good, but they don't show us who currently belongs to that category - for example Category:Accepted. I've noticed there aren't that many actual list pages, so I wanted to make sure that it was okay for me to create some? I'd hate to go to the bother of making them when they might be considered redundant.

To save on the number of list pages, I was thinking three main sections to each list - current, former, deceased - and then subsections if needed. So using the Accepted for an example, under "former" you could have "raised to Aes Sedai", "ran away", "put out of the Tower", etc. Not sure how user-friendly that would be though ;) Thoughts?

Thanks for the feedback last week about proper linking. I admit that while I am good at technical writing, I am horrible at understanding and remembering coding procedures. I think I understand now what you were getting at about creating headers with == and using [[]] in place of URLs (simple stuff...yea I know now)

Stop by some of the Two Rivers pages I've been working on sometime and tell me what you think. Right now I'm focusing on geography related pages and I'll be moving on to people and culture later. I'm happy for any feedback.Servant of All 06:10, February 23, 2011 (UTC)

Hi :) I would like to make a page on "siswai'aman separate from the description on the page of Aiel Terms where I have expanded on stuff. Hello and thanks for the assistance you'd given me last week (and the week before) helping me to link things correctly. I have a new Q. Can you show me where I can learn how to create proper footnotes? I just spent a week crafting and then transcribing my first new page that I saw was needed and didn't exist (Battle of the Tarendrelle River) but it has no proper citations at the moment. I have a page of notebook paper on my desk filled with the needed citations that I researched to write that article but I need to figure out the code to properly insert them. I don't know if you've noticed, but I have been methodically moving through the two rivers/manetheren pages trying to being some clarity to them. I'm about 60% done with (perhaps) 2 weeks of work remaining. But I still need to cite things properly!Servant of All 21:44, March 5, 2011 (UTC)

Characters with alter-egos

Hi :) I have a question regarding characters with "alter-egos" - people who have two different names and identities with separate histories, for example Ryma Galfrey/Pura, Zarya Alkaese/Garenia Rosoinde and Martine Janata/Setalle Anan to name a couple.

Currently these characters are described in a main character page, with their "secondary" character redirecting back to the main character page. I was wondering why this is? It seems to me to make more sense if searching for Pura actually brought up a page for the damane called Pura, rather than just redirecting to Ryma the Yellow sister. My reasoning behind this is that they aren't really the same person anymore - Pura is not who Ryma was, Setalle is definitely not Martine, and even Zarya is Garenia no longer - so I feel they should have two separate pages, with a "See also" link at the bottom for the reader if they wish to learn about the character's "other" life. What do you think?

Thanks, Daea 13:27, March 7, 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I uploaded a bunch of what I thought were Serbian book covers, but it turns out they are images from the comic just with "Wheel of Time" in Serbian written across it. Should I/could I delete those images? BTW, I am slowly going through and adding image tags to the images I've added the last couple days. Thanks for your help and advice! Seebster 03:37, March 19, 2011 (UTC)

according to your weights and measures mat weighs 8 stone perrin 10 given perrin is supposed to be around 6ft 2 this would make him a bean pole and mat wieghs less than a small woman

Mat is actually 18 stone and Perrin is 24. Translated into our measurements, Mat is around 165 lbs. and Perrin is 240 lbs. This would mean that Mat is of average weight for someone of his height and Perrin has the weight and height of an NFL quarterback. I don't know much about blacksmiths, but it seems to me that a quarterback should be able to get the job done. :) ---- Willie - HtS 21:58, March 19, 2011 (UTC)
i assume then 1 lb WoT is equivilent to 1lb real world and ounces do not correspond. although surely using your system if Perrin is 240lbs Mat must be 180lbs not 165lbs? Thanks for taking time to explain by the way.

Hello, I'm looking for a bit of advice on my own wiki. How did you make the custom achievements? Such as 4000 edits etc. Also I am a massive fan of TWOT and I stumbled on this just after I was going to make my own wiki on it, but I have scrapped that idea now. I am now working on writing my own novels and creating a play by post forum to go with it. Thanks for all the great work you have done on this wiki!

Hi, thanks for the help! Also, if you happen to have any free time available, how would you like to help out with my play by post forum as an administrator? Why Limit it to quote of the day? This series has sooooo many quotes in it, perhaps Quote of the Hour, or a different quote every time you reload the page? I cant help you with coding but if you can make it i can find buttloads of quotes for you.

Page for deletion

While working on adding additional Brandon Sanderson signing reports, I inadvertently created one that is a duplicate of an already existing report. The duplicate report that should be deleted is this one ; it is a duplicate of the first part of this one (the place listed is different, but it is the same report - I got the place wrong in the duplicate one due to some initial confusion on my part over similar threads on Theoryland about the signings). Anyway, if you could delete the duplicate, that would be great. Thanks. Mariecurie7 17:20, August 6, 2011 (UTC)

Matrim Cauthon

I deleted a quote on the Matrim Cauthon page and you put it back the way it was. Just so you know i am wiki-user, so it was me who added the quote in the first place.

I realized that the quote is monotonous. If you scroll down Matrim Cauthon page to "Activities" then subsection "General" you will see the same quote. I realized i wasn't adding anything new to the wikia so i deleted it. So if you believe that it should remain there thats fine by me, just note that that quote is already there. If you think that the quote should remain, Shouldn't the other quotes in that section be added as well? Perhaps that same policy on other pages like Rand or Perrin?

It was my first wikia edit ever :P

Stone Carving

Dude, you keep changing the page "Stone Carving" to read false information. This is NOT the glass man ter'angreal. And the quotation makes need to be in place because they are direct quotation from the book.

Is this User:Jrboyett? If so, then you created the page with the words "glass man" in it, seen here. Second, I didn't realize that the page name and the title of the article were different when I changed the html links to regular links. Third, it usually isn't good to have most of a small article like that directly quoted from the book. Take a look at how it is now to see what I mean. Therefor, I'm respectfully asking you to completely delete the above reports (not just editing them as I could do myself, but to completely remove them).

As much as possible, I would also like you to try and create a sense of awareness about licensing and copyright in this community, so that I don't have to file a similar claim _again_ a few years from now. Thanks. Aan`allein 14:11, October 8, 2011 (UTC)

According to Fair Use, as long as we give proper attribution, which we have on the articles, they can be used on this wiki. I would be more than happy to alter our fairuse template add it to the pages. Please let me know if you have any other questions.---- Willie - HtS 01:38, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
I don't think this qualifies for fair use (the chief factor against it being that my original work is copied wholesale). The idea that crediting is necessary or sufficient to claim fair use is actually one of the common misunderstandings listed on the wikipedia article about fair use which is linked from the template. That said, if including that template is all which it takes to assert that the article is copyrighted and the CC-BY-SA license doesn't apply, then please proceed like that. Rand as Emperor

Well lets think about this for a minute or two, eh?

Rand is the acknowleged overlord of Andor, Cairhein, Tear, Illian, the Car' a' Carn of the Aiel and the Coramoor of the Seafolk, also as of the end of ToM, all the Border Land Monarchs have acknowleged him as thier leader, with authority to give them orders and expect to be obeyed, not to mention that as early as the last few chapter of TDR or the first few chapters of TSR, Elayne thinks to herself that Rand bears a strong resembelance to an Emporer, so given all that, what else would you call him?

Color Project

I have a suggestion for new colors in the color project. I believe that characters from AoL should have a color, characters from AB should have a color, and characters from FY should have a color. The colors are up to you. MegaZeroX 21:49, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give a thought to the colors and see what I come up with. ---- Willie - HtS 04:08, January 17, 2012 (UTC)
Field name 1st color 2nd color 1st color # 2nd color #
Aes Sedai (A.o.L.) #FFFFFF #000000
Age of Legends #0B610B #333333
After Breaking #B45F04 #0174DF
Free Years #D7DF01 #FFFFFF

Here's what I've come up with. For the AoL Aes Sedai, I thought white and black. Ties in with the color of the seals and it is opposite of the Forsaken colors. For the other AoL characters, the green and gray come from the picture here. I took the AB colors from the map at Ten Nations and the FY colors from Artur Paendrag Tanreall's flag. Not much to go on, I know. Next time I get a chance, I'll go through TWORJTWOT again and see if anything else pops up. ---- Willie - HtS 07:24, January 17, 2012 (UTC)

I have just thought of one more possible color. It would be a very rarely used color, but how about Seanchan "Aes Sedai" before Luthair Paendrag's invasion. One example would be Deain. Or include them in the "Free Years" colors (again, I point to Deain). Also, should "Seanchan Aes Sedai" become its own category and their character template reflect that they are not "regular Aes Sedai"? MegaZeroX 03:08, January 24, 2012 (UTC)

First mentioned

If something is mentioned in The World of Robert Jordan's the Wheel of Time and appears later, how does it work? It was published after ACoS, so if something is mentioned first in the guide and mentioned later in the main series, what goes under the first mentioned in the character template? I recently changed a first mentioned to the guide, but is that correct or incorrect? MegaZeroX 16:34, January 27, 2012 (UTC)

I think that will be a good guideline. ACoS --> Guide --> TPoD. If I remember correctly, most of the character in the Guide have their first mention in it. Seems good to me. Thanks for bringing it up! ---- Willie - HtS 17:14, January 27, 2012 (UTC)

The White Ring

Hi Willie. I request that you reconsider the paragraph you added to the page on a 'hell' where The White Ring is described as a rough sort of place. I actually had that in my original article on The White Ring but took it out because the text does not support it. The place is described as being filled with well-dressed patrons, the walls are wood paneled with great beams holding the ceiling, the food smells emanating from the kitchen are delicious, and the performer is singing a song that though Tuon considers salacious, also considers the performer overdressed for. Tuon also expresses disbelief that this is a hell because of how well the people are dressed.

Later Thom explains to Mat that this is where farmers come to sell some of their goods in the middle of the day.

So after consideration I took the "rough" part of the description out. With in excess of 21,000 edits to this wiki, however, I will defer to your decisioin.

Ahhh, sorry Willie. I failed to sign the last entry.

ToM Epilogue

Hi Willie:

Alas for the cold fates of the world that make rubbish of the hard work we would otherwise produce...

Last night, I spent about two hours working on the Towers of Midnight epilogue (it needs A LOT of work). I wasn't done, so I left a message to you in the comments saying, "I'm not done so please wait before you apply your expert editing" or words to that effect--I was trying to save you some work. But alas, today I sign on to work some more and ALL of my changes have disappeared. Not one single jot or tittle from last night's editing session survived whatever bumblings I performed just before I signed off. Anyway, so I start afresh tonight, and I decided to finish Grandael's part, save it and then move on to Perrin's part. Grandael's section got saved beautifully (BTW it STILL needs work...never mind) and I moved on to Perrin's section. I spent about an hour on it and went to save it...lo and behold you had already made some changes which meant there were differences that need to be reconciled, and once again I bumbled it, and lost an hour's work.

Sigh. Its my fault. I know it, but (honest query now--I'm no longer whining) can you think of some way I can prevent this from happening again? I worked hard on Perrin's section two nights in a row. I guess I'll work on it for three nights in a row...

Pedantic 02:08, February 4, 2012 (UTC)

Hi Willie:

Not a whine this time, but a request for advice: The TOM epilogue has as its last few paragraphs a quotation from the Dark Prophecies. So far no one has mentioned the quote, but I can't see leaving it out. How would you recommend handling it? I'm trying to think of a perspective that would fit the "in-universe" approach that the wiki wants and am not quite sure how it can be done.

If it has been done in other pages that you know of, then please just direct me there. I'm a fair study if I have a good example to guide me.

Pedantic 21:46, February 4, 2012 (UTC)

Page creation

Thannks for polishing the Epilogue page. It's really looking good! Are you ready to remove the template at the bottom that requests help bringing the page up to wiki standards? If no, please let me know why and I will attempt to address your concerns in a future edit.

I created four of the five pages I referred to in the epilogue but did not exist...they were small pages as I expected them to be--there just isn't a lot out there about the Bearer of the Sword of the Lakes. But in each of the three articles on the titles Lan claims for himself in the epilogue I use the same quote, the last few words being, "But I am still King!" In the book those words are set apart by italics, but of course on the page the whole quote is italicized so the italic effectiveness is lost. I tried bolding the words to make up for the ineffectual functionality of italics in this context but that doesn't seem to be enough. Is there something else we can do to the text, like give it a bigger font size, or make it red, or something like that, to make it really stand out? If there is an article that might do the job of explaining how to do what I want, just point me to it. Once I know where to look, I usually do a creditable job of figuring out what needs to be done.

Finally, I thank you for putting up with me. You arer a consummate diplomat, exhibiting the patience of Job. I'm in this project for the long haul. With AMOL coming out, um, soon, there'll be plenty of material to keep us busy improving the site. Take care.

Wheel of Time

Since I created Wheel of Time (song), can you change Wheel of Time's title to Wheel of Time (concept) and create a disambiguation page (which would also include The Wheel of Time? Thanks! MegaZeroX 13:37, February 6, 2012 (UTC) PS I should be a bit more active in the next couple of days

Using the Preview Button

Hi Willie. Believe it or not, the Preview button and I are great friends! It just so happened that in that particular article I added a link that would not resolve. It toook me four attempts before I finally got it right. I tried a bit of playing here and typed in Lord Ingtar of House Shinowa. In the preview it shows up as a valid link, but when I publish this article it does not...that's what happened last night. And other things happen, which the perfectionist in me will not let lie...for example my failure to give this posting a title.

Still, your constructive criticism has a lot of merit. I'll try to do better (And this is where Silviana says "Do! Or Do not! There is no trying!" Whoops! Wrong universe (grin)).

All seriousness aside, I will make a concerted effort to do better. Take care. Pedantic 12:28, February 9, 2012 (UTC)

Morning Willie! (It's morning somewhere in the world!)

I was reviewing all the notes you have left on my talk page recently and noticed that you wanted me to add categories to new pages. Where can I find the "list of acceptable categories" page?

Pedantic 23:58, February 23, 2012 (UTC)

thanks for cleaning up after me. seeing your edits i now know to put a space before the stub and that i need to make a reference section Doonval ti bekk'har 04:13, April 1, 2012 (UTC)

Morning Willie:

1.) Sigh, I'm a slow learner. Shortly after finishing entering Chapter 39 of ACOS, I realized that I did not include categories. This is an apology for failing to do as you requested.

2.) In the header of the chapter it asks for a setting. I looked all over the place for a "Setting" template and couldn't find one. Where is it?

Pedantic 00:36, April 15, 2012 (UTC)

Chapter 39, COS thanks and discussion.

Hi Willie. I reviewed the changes you made to Chapter 39 of COS (as I always do to try to learn from the Master) and I noticed that I had several spelling errors. I am sooooo embarassed by them as I pride myself in my excellent spelling abilities. Mea culpa (pound)! Mea culpa (pound)! Mea culpa (pound)! (If you're Catholic you will understand.)

Anyway the only other change that I had any trouble with is the de-capitalization of "al" in Lan's name. Before I added him to the list I looked him up in the wiki, and the name is displayed as Al'Lan Mandragoran. Of course, that may be because his name starts a sentence which then is just my bad luck and poor analysis. Still, in such cases it would be nice to include some kind of spelling help for folks such as myself who figuratively cannot see beyond their noses. (Just a thought...)

Finally, thanks for fixing the Setting template. I appreciate all you do to make my entries better.

Take care.

Hey Willie, I just spent some time "randoming" through the Wiki and I noticed that there are still plenty of chapters in Eye of the World that have not been summarized. That took me completely by surprise; I thought EOTW was completed. So, in the chapter list that is included in each chapter summary if the user so chooses to view it, is there any quick and easy way to mark which chapters have been summarized and which chapters still need to be done?

Take care.

Shadowspawn vs shadowspawn

Hi Willie:

Shadowspawn is a generalized category, like "people." When I say "I want to talk to the English," then I capitalize English. When I say "I want to talk to the People," I capitalize People, both are specific and Proper nouns. However, when I say "I want to talk to people," it should remain lower-case. That was my reasoning with Shadowspawn.

Alas, however, you are correct. Robert Jordan says to capitalize it, so in the future, capitalized it shall be.

Sigh. 1.) The Master is always right. 2.) When the Master is wrong, see rule 1.

Take care.

Pedantic 20:37, April 21, 2012 (UTC)

P.S. I'll let you decide who I mean by "the Master."

Chapter template in the Summaries list

Hi Willie. Sorry to bug you twice in the same day but this time I am coming with a real issue (not like the last time which I admit was an "I'm embarrassed" whine). The chapter summaries lists you maintain on your user page use a template to capture the chapter name and number. When one attempts to look at the list to update it (i.e. selec Edit and then view the list in edit mode) the template icons appear instead of the chapter numbers. I now know that if one places his mouse cursor over the template it will expand into a small informational sheet that will tell him which chapter number the template is set to display. The problem is that the information is displayed using yellow on white, which is really hard to read, especially for us older youngsters who have thick lenses. Can we change the background color to something a little more contrasting? Or the font color if not the background color? Thanks for listening!

Working Cover

I haven't been on for a while, but I am back at least for a short while. I recently uploaded the recently released cover for AMoL Darrel K Sweet was working on before his death. I don't know how to categorize properly to give credit to him, so could you do that for me? MegaZeroX 18:52, April 22, 2012 (UTC)

Advisor vs Adviser

Hi Willie:

Just a quick note, no need to respond.

According to Wikipedia, "advisor" is a correct spelling for someone who has special knowledge in a particular area--"government positions" is specifically mentioned, among several others. Additionally, the WOT Wiki is riddled with the spelling "advisor" which is why I have not changed any occurrences, considering that perhaps our English brethren spelled it that way...

Take care and thanks for your great cleanup jobs on my messes.

Pedantic 23:31, April 24, 2012 (UTC) P.S. A quick search of TOM reveals four uses of "advisor" and zero uses of "adviser."

Removing white space

Willie, thanks for removing that extra line. White space is good in code, but not so much here. I tried to remove the extra line myself, but when I edited either section, the white space was not included. A short discussion on how you did it would be appreciated. Or point me to the place in the manual where it discusses removing an extra line between two sections.Pedantic 23:38, April 25, 2012 (UTC)

White space revisited

I think I failed to communicate my concern. I totally agree with your removing the white space. I tried looking for a way to do it myself and could not find one. But then again, you answered the question; edit the whole page. Okay. Got it. Thanks.Pedantic 11:05, April 26, 2012 (UTC)

Brandon Sanderson Blog Posts

Crossposting to all the listed admins.

I'm Brandon Sanderson's assistant. There's a problem with having Brandon's blog posts on your wiki.

All your content is labeled as being licensed under CC-BY-SA, but Brandon's blog posts must be copyright Dragonsteel Entertainment, LLC. Under ideal circumstances we don't have a problem with you mirroring certain posts on your wiki, but they must not be relicensed. Because if they are licensed CC-BY-SA, people can make a printed book of Brandon's blog posts and sell it on Barnes & Noble:

That is just not cool. The people making that book think it is legal because they got the text from your website, which says CC-BY-SA.

Please do something about this. We will contact Barnes & Noble separately, but the license needs to be cleared up on your site. If wikia terms don't allow material to be posted without being CC-BY-SA, please just link straight to Brandon's blog posts instead of mirroring.

I'm sorry that unscrupulous content scrapers made this necessary.

You can contact me on Twitter if you want to talk about anything.

Hello, Peter. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I don't think that anyone here, nor Terez or Marie, thought that people would do this kind of thing. I've created a template that we are going to put at the bottom of each of the blog post pages. Please let me know if this will satisfy the copyright requirements. Sorry that we have to go through all of this. Thanks! ---- Willie - HtS 19:06, May 1, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. If you stick "All rights reserved." at the end of the template, I think that will do. I appreciate it. —Peter Ahlstrom (Not at TOKYOPOP anymore) 19:21, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Hello Willie. I am seeing a lot of references that look like this:

If I were writiing this in C I would know how to make it look like plain text, but I am not writiing it in C. Please look at it in the source mode so you can see what I am talking about.

Should these be converted to the standard notes template, or do you care? And while I am at it, if a line has two notes, should they be separated by a comma? Take care.Pedantic 00:11, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

They do need to be changed over to the ref/book template. If a line has two notes, they should just go side by side, like the ones on Hammar's page. ---- Willie - HtS 19:06, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

I've got a question. I added the summary to the prologue of TFOH for all three POV. I also deleted the stub-message. You placed it back unto the page. Can I ask why? I don't see how it is still a stub. If you write much more, I feel you might as well just write down the entire prologue...

(Nothing personal though, I just like the know the reason behind things, being new and all...)

Wow, Willie! You must have made forty edits today! No wonder your count is up in the 25,000+ range! I tip my hat to you.

And I thank you for how quickly you responded to my comments about balescream. That's exactly what I was hoping for. No need to respond. There's still the issue of Dumai's Wells

Hi Willie:

First of all, thanks for finding and then fixing the "Dogweed" problem. I appreciate it. Once again, my quick glance was not enough to take care of all occurrances of the problem.

And thanks for clearing up the Amira Moselle problem. There remains one detail, however that is not substantiated by reference (4). I pulled the whole text of that page (Tor question of the week) into my text editor and did a search on "Amira Moselle" and found only the one reference to her stepping down as a sitter. There is no reference to her being sent to Cairhien as an ambassador, nor any reference to her death at Dumai's Wells. I then did a search on Dumai's Wells and found no reference to it, either. I also did a search on "Dumai" "Cairhien" and "Ambassador." I found one instance of Cairhien in relation to Moiraine's battle with Lanfear, but neither of the other two were found. So that fact still remains open. I'm home most of the day. Is there any way to have a private chat?

Pedantic 15:07, May 14, 2012 (UTC)

Amira Moselle

Thanks Willie for the information on Amira. If you trust her, then I trust her. I will remove the verify tag tonight (since I was the jerk who added it, let me be the one to fix it), and perhaps figure out some way to add an additional reference so that future, ahem, scholars, will have that information. Take care. Pedantic 18:16, May 15, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for feedback

Hello Willie,

Thanks for your feedback on how I can handle quotes better. I'll make sure I do it that way in the future. I may also peruse some of your projects and possibly get invovled, but not for a while. I'm sure my chapter updates will take me through the rest of the year and probably beyond.

All this wiki updating is new to me.

How to report a bug?

Hello Willie:

I have conducted several Wiki searches on our wiki and I note that as one traverses the pages of findings that the first entry never changes. For example, I did a search on Mazrim Taim and came up with in excess of 17 pages of findings. As I went from page to page, however Mazrim Taim was the first entry displayed on every page. I then for kicks jumped from page 13 to page 18 and found the same thing. It was not a header line, it was an entry. Clicking on it took me to Taim's Wiki page. For fun I did a search on Channeling and "One Power" became the unchangeable first entry on every page. So, how do I submit a bug report to the Wiki programmers?

Rand Recognizing Siuane

I was reading The Tower's of Midnight. In the chapter, Amyrlin's Anger, he encounters Siuane with Gareth, and immediately recognizes her. How does he do hat? i don't remember him ever seeing her after her stilling, and I didn't see anyone mention her name in front of him either.

Oh! That would make sense, considering he was able to recognize darkfriends among his followers as well. I though I had missed something. Thanks a lot!

Wheel of Time Wiki in Spanish

Hello Mainphramephreak,

I don't know if your wiki had notice of us, but since last year I have been working in a spanish version of Wheel of Time Wiki (you can see ir here). As you will see, we have too work to do yet, but I hope to improve the wiki the next months, to give A Memory of Light the best welcome we can.

First of all, I must thank you all the good job you and your partners have done in this wiki. I recognize about 85 % of my work in the spanish wiki is to translate your articles and the other 15 % expand them with other resources. Without your hard work, there will not be any spanish wiki! So, thank you very much.

I write to you to announce that I am going to apply for a interwiki with your wiki, if you don't care. The Wikia Central in spanish has recently recognised the work done in the Spanish Wiki and it will have a spotlight in some months, so I thought it should show the credits to your work via interwiki.

Best regards (and excuse me for my bad English) --Tenbu Horin (talk) 12:14, August 15, 2012 (UTC)

Hi again, and thanks for your answer :) As you can see, the interwikis are ready. I have just put one in the River Boern pages of the spanish and english wikis. If you want, I can do the same in the nearly 399 articles we have in the Spanish wiki yet. Best wishes --Tenbu Horin (talk) 20:01, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

Pounce badge?

Sorry for asking something so way out of left field, but there is very little information on achievements; are there earlier "stages" of the pounce badge? Is it available in every wikia? Thank you for letting me ask; I admire your dedication to this page.

Re: Template

Thanks for all the help. My apologies for making you do all that extra work. It breaks one of my religious codes: not making extra work for people. I'll get the hang of it- eventually. Just keep checking behind my work!!!!

Both of your links, Wotwiki:Chapter summaries & User:Duggadugga/Chapter solve my issue with retyping boilerplate stuff each time I do a chapter. The problem is access. I can't even do a search on "chapter summaries" in order to cut & paste the code. How do I get to it? Is there a way you could manipulate the chapter summaries to pop up in that Template bar on the right side of the page? I don't think that is sound because you'd have people stuffing alot of info into those green puzzle pieces. How about readily availble link on the right side of the page?

Sword form

Regarding the undoing of my edit on Lightning of Three Prongs:

Unfortunately, it is my experience that many people who have little or no knowledge of martial arts, fencing or swordcraft misunderstand the term "sword form" and assume that it is referring to the shape of the sword, not the style with which it is wielded. This is particularly problematic in places where English is not a first language but is widely sponken; in Spanish, for example, forma de la espada specifically refers to the shape of the sword, with estilo de la espada or estilo de esgrima referring to the style. This is important, since WoT is read around the world and many might have some confusion regarding the term sword form. Not making allowances for non-native English speakers (or even younger native speakers who don't have the breadth of knowledge to understand the difference) is a mistake. It is my opinion that every article on a sword form should specify that a sword form is a style or school of fencing to avoid even the possibility of confusion or misinterpretation.

--Sings-With-Spirits (talk) 01:19, November 30, 2012 (UTC)

I completely understand that English is a difficult language, even for native speakers. I also understand that not everyone has in-depth knowledge of martial arts and swordcraft. However, making that distinction on each individual page, especially when the distinction is made on the main sword form article, seems too much to me. Also, most of the sword form pages contain wording indicative of movement or utilization, i.e. "movement of the form" and "aggressive strikes," that differentiates it from the shape of a sword. ---- Willie - HtS 02:15, November 30, 2012 (UTC)

Amico Nagoyin

I wasn't certain who to message about this, but the page about Amico Nagoyin is wrong. They make a big deal about this paragraph in The Dragon Reborn, but the quote it incorrectly as:

"No two were born in the same city, and no more than two in any one country. Amico Nagoyin was the youngest, only four years older than Egwene and I. Joiya Byir could be our grandmother.... ...What chance that thirteen women chosen solely because they were Darkfriends would be so neatly arrayed across age, across nations, across Ajahs? Shouldn’t there be perhaps three Reds, or four born in Cairhien, or just two the same age, if it was all chance?"

However, the actual quote from a version of the book I bought about a month ago states:

"No two were born in the same city, and no more than two in any one country. Amico Nagoyin was the youngest, some fifteen yearls older than Egwene and I. Joiya Byir could be our great-grandmother's great-grandmother....", then a couple paragraphs later: "...What chance that thirteen women chosen solely because they were Darkfriends would be so neatly arrayed across age, across nations, across Ajahs? Shouldn’t there be perhaps three Reds, or four born in Cairhien, or just two the same age, if it was all chance?"

Someone should definitely correct this.

Rand al'Thor's picture

I hope this is the right place to ask:

I like the Rand al'Thor picture on the righthand side of this page's frame a lot and couldn't find anything about it. Who drew it? Are there more? Thanks for your help! Minglan

I found it in the meantime: It's from Jeremy Saliba:
