A member of the Younglings.
The Younglings are a military force born of the White Tower Schism]]. They were loyal to Elaida's White Tower and viewed Elaida as the rightful Amyrlin Seat.
Background[]
Under the command of the Gawyn Trakand, sister of the missing Accepted Elayne Trakand and prince of Andor where Elaida had until recently been advisor to his mother Queen Morgase, a number of Warder trainees fought to prevent the rescue of the deposed and stilled Amyrlin Siuan Sanche. They killed many of their Warder teachers, most notably Hammar. Those who fought that day were awarded a Tower emblem. Due to their youth, they adopted the name Younglings.
The Younglings were roughly the size of a company.[1]
Activities[]
Embassy to the Dragon Reborn[]
The Younglings were later used by Elaida as an "honor guard" for the embassy sent to the Dragon Reborn at Cairhien.
Galina Casban, the leader of the embassy after the abduction of Rand al'Thor, had arranged to meet some Shaido en route back to the Tower.[2] On Elaida's orders, she attempted to arrange for Gawyn[3] and most of the Younglings to be killed by the Shaido.[2][4]
The Younglings played a significant role in the Battle of Dumai's Wells. Their early warning allowed the embassy to establish a defensible position around the wells. The Younglings managed a breakout through the enveloping Shaido shortly after Rand al'Thor freed himself.[4] En route to Tar Valon, they gathered Covarla and eleven of the surviving Aes Sedai.[5][3] On their return to Tar Valon, the Tower Guard refused entry to the Younglings.[3]
Siege of Tar Valon[]
During the Siege of Tar Valon, the Younglings were based out of the tiny village of Dorlan, from which they launched raids on detachments of the rebel Aes Sedai army.
Isolated in Dorlan and cut off from Tar Valon by the besieging rebel forces, the Younglings played no part in the Battle of Tar Valon, except for the defector Gawyn Trakand, who sought out and "rescued" Egwene al'Vere from loyalist captivity at the conclusion of the battle.
Reunification and dissolution[]
After the Tower was reunited and Egwene al'Vere was raised Amyrlin Seat of the reintegrated Tower, some of the Younglings informed Gawyn that they no longer wished to become Warders.[6] Gawyn petitioned Jimar Chubain, the Captain of the Tower Guard, to keep the Younglings who no longer wished to become Warders together as distinct unit within the Tower Guard,[1] which Chubain granted.[7] Chubain almost certainly formed them into a new incarnation of the Tenth Tower Company, which had been nearly wiped out during the Battle of Tar Valon.[1][7]
