Zerah Dacan is a Mayener Aes Sedai of the White Ajah.[1]
Appearance and Personality[]
Zerah is 5'5½" tall, and slim. She has black shoulder-length hair and large blue eyes. She is cool and self-possessed and moves gracefully.
Strength and Abilities[]
Zerah is of high average strength in the One Power, with a strength level of 19(7).
She matches the stated minimum strength needed to be able to make a gateway of useful size. Barring some below average ability in the Talent, she should be able to Travel.
History[]
Zerah comes from a moderately wealthy family in Mayene; her father had been a merchant-trader . She was born in 928 NE and went to the White Tower in 943 NE. After spending seven years as a novice and eight years as Accepted, Zerah was raised to the shawl in 958 NE. She was allied with the rebel Aes Sedai during the White Tower schism.
She has no Warder.
Activities[]
Zerah, as well as nine other sisters, was sent by the Salidar Aes Sedai to the White Tower to spy, and to spread the rumor that the Red Ajah set Logain Ablar up as a false Dragon[2][3].
Unfortunately, Pevara Tazanovni and Seaine Herimon suspected her of being Black Ajah and questioned her with the Oath Rod, causing her to unwillingly betray her allegiance to the Salidar Aes Sedai, as well as the names of the other spies[4]. She was also forced to swear an oath of obedience to Pevara and Seaine, which included luring each of the other ferrets into the same trap.
Zerah unwittingly demonstrated the problem of conflicting Oaths. Bound by the oath to not lie, and bound by the Oath to obey Pevara, Pevara told her to admit that the story of Reds setting up Logain as a False Dragon was a lie. Because Zerah believed it was truth, she could not obey Pevara. Zerah began to choke, and was only saved because Seaine figured out that the Oaths conflicted and urged Pevara to rescind her order.
She is now part of the group of sisters who are hunting the Black Ajah in the White Tower.
"The Wheel of Time Companion" reveals that Egwene successfully convinced Seaine and the others to remove Zerah's oath of obedience.
